Swim #8 - Bouley Bay Air temp: 15C Sea temp: 16C according to #magicseaweed Bouley is my local beach, only 5 minutes away by car. Today was a long day at work for both me and my other half and it’s been a long week in general. It was warm this afternoon so as soon as I got back from work I suggested we go to the beach and he was only too happy to oblige. I wasn’t sure that I was going to swim as the tide isn’t high until late this evening but Bouley is a deep harbour and so swimming is good all the time. Usually I swim out to a diving platform in the bay but it isn’t there at the moment so I chose a buoy and swan out to that a couple of times. I’m not going to lie, I almost didn’t go in - it was freezing at first and I almost got out again but I knew I would regret it if I didn’t go in. After a while it wasn’t too bad, in fact it was lovely. The shore is quite rocky so it can be a bit tricky getting in and out of the water but Bouley is a really refreshing place to swim after a hard days work. Swim #6 - St Catherine’s Air temp: 15C Sea temp: 16C According to #magicseaweed The last of my Monday night swims after work. I was so pleased with myself as I usually do the epic 3/4 swims or more at the weekends. Each year I have a kind of mantra for swimming, something that I am going to do each year to challenge myself. Year two was ‘no wetsuit’, year three was ‘head under each bay’ and this year’s is ‘no hesitation’. No standing around in the shallows debating whether to get in just going for it. It’s pretty easy to do that at St Catherine’s. When you swim off the slip the water is deep immediately so you just have to start paddling! I usually pick a buoy in the harbour and swim out to it and back. As I was doing my swim the long distance swimming club were coming down to the water to swim all the way to Archirondel! I’d love to be able to do that but 1) I am really terrified of deep water and 2) I can’t do front crawl! I left feeling really proud of myself because it meant that I was 6 for 6! I also left feeling really hungry! Swim #5 - Belval Cove Air temp: 15C Sea temp: 16C According to #magicseaweed One of my Monday evening swims, this is the busiest I’ve ever seen. Elba’s - there were probably a maximum of 10 people there! The water was really flat and calm. I don’t like to swim too close to the edges of the bay here as there is a lot of floating seaweed and I’m scared of getting tangled up in it, also it feels really slimy - ugh! Only a quick swim as I wanted to push on to St Catherine’s the same evening, which is a shame as I’d like to have stayed here a bit longer. I tend to forget this beach exists most of the time but it is quite lovely. Swim #4 - Archirondel Air temp: 15C sea temp: 16C according to #magicseaweed I actually did this one yesterday in an evening of epic swims that brought my total number of swims up to 6 in 6 days, which feels really good. My favourite time to swim here is at the high tide and on a warm, calm day it is just bliss! Swim #2: Bonne Nuit Air temp: 16C Sea temp: 16C (according to #magicseaweed I chickened out of a swim yesterday at Ouaisné as it was a bit windy and the waves were looking a bit rough. I almost chickened out of today but it feels warmer and when we arrived at Bonne Nuit there were lots of people here and I always feel more confident when other people are swimming too. In fact the water was lovely once the initial shock wore off and I ended up with quite a long swim around the boats and up to the end of the pier where people were pier jumping. I was almost tempted to try it but although it didn’t look high from the water I’m sure I would have got the fear once I was at the top!
