Part One and Two)
That was not the reaction Jackaboy had been expecting from Dark, when the grey-skinned ego had gotten over Anti and the Hero bursting uninvited into his office. There had been no explanation from either of them, just a demand from Jackaboy about what he was doing with Marvin and why he wanted him. Dark had looked at him and posed the question.
âThe magician?â Anti supplied for Dark when Jackaboy was at a loss for words. âThe guy in the cat mask?â
âAh, yes I know who you mean. The one from âthe power hourâ?â Dark clarified to which Anti nodded. âI have spoken to him yes, briefly.â
âWhen?!â Jackaboy cried, stopping pacing and stepping closer to Dark, his eyes still glowing with power. Darkâs shell cracked, a warning to the Hero as he got too close but Jackaboy didnât care. He was willing to fight this ego, to fight any person he needed to in order to win and get back to Marvin. To save Marvin.
âIt was during the time I went to speak to Anti,â Dark finally replied softly when it became clear the Hero was not moving. âThe magician came to ask me a question, but I barely remember what happened.â
âWhat did he ask ye?â Anti inquired, intrigued and concerned that if Dark didnât stop being so vague, Jackaboy was going to fight him. Putting a hand onto Jackaboyâs arm as a warning, Anti gave him a silent warning about how dangerous Dark could be, but the Hero didnât care.
âHe was intrigued about my shell, the power I use.â Dark shrugged, examining his nails. âHe wanted to know how I received my manipulative powers.â
Jackaboyâs mouth dropped open and even Anti looked shocked, glancing between each other and Dark rolled his eyes.
âWhat did you tell him?!â Jackaboy shouted, losing it completely and grabbing Dark by the front of his suit. Anti hissed in a breath and Darkâs shell broke beneath the Heroâs hands. âDid you give him power?!â
âI canât share any powers.â Dark snapped, knocking Jackaboyâs hands off him and standing, cracking his neck in a very familiar way and Jackaboy had to turn away to control himself.
âNow, please explain why you two burst into my office and demanded to know whether Iâve spoken to this magician?â
Anti knew that Jackaboy was unable to speak, so he pushed the Hero away from Dark and allowed him to pace the room, his brain whirring as he tried to put everything together, and gain an understanding of what Marvin wanted from Dark.
âHeâs Villain.â The glitch finally explained when Dark cleared his throat. âYâknow, the evil guy that Jackaboy fights?â
âNo, but I suppose I can pretend to know.â Dark sighed, âIs that so surprising?â
Nodding, Anti glanced at Jackaboy again. âMarvin and Jackaboy are dating yâknow, so itâs a bit of a shock.â
Dark hmphed and crossed his arms. âAnd you think I have something to do with this? How charming.â
âDo you remember what you said to him?â Jackaboy asked, finally finding his voice, but the tone softer this time. âPlease.â
âI told him that it wasnât any of his business,â Dark replied sharply, watching the Hero continue to pace, unable to stop moving. âI donât share my skills because if I did then people would no longer be susceptible to them.â
âWell that makes sense.â Anti muttered, âJackaboy-.â
âYou led me here Anti!â Jackaboy snapped, rounding on the glitch and the grey-skinned ego, âWhy?!â
âBecause it made sense for it to be him at the time.â Anti hissed, immediately on the defensive again and even Dark seemed tense. âManipulation is Darkâs biggest thing. And ye thought it was me until ye talked to me!â
Jackaboy went to open his mouth again but Dark interupted him smoothly.
âMight I make a suggestion?â
The two turned to him and Dark left a pregnant pause before continuing.
âIt is entirely possible that Marvin has always had this manipulative side to him, but itâs been hidden the entire time. Manipulating you into loving him, into thinking he was an innocent victim the entire timeâŠwho knows what else heâs done. What makes you think anyone else is even involved? This could have been him from the very beginning. BesidesâŠâ Dark trailed off calmly, and Jackaboy was ready to smack the smirk off his face before he continued on, âDoesnât this seem a little staged to you? Your lover suddenly becomes the Villain and allows you to leave so easily? Almost like a TV show-.â
âA TV show!â Jackaboy shouted, interrupting Dark again and throwing his hands above his head. âOf course! ThisâŠthis could be the answer.â
âDiscuss this amongst yourselves somewhere away from me.â Dark ordered, retaking his seat at the desk, âIâm not getting involved.â
Anti went to take Jackaboyâs arm again but the Hero was already storming from the room, so the glitch merely shrugged and followed him.
âAre ye okay?â He asked, âWhatâs going on?â
âI was approached byâŠby some of the egos that live hereâŠnewscasters if Iâm not mistaken. They were asking if Iâd be interested in being part of their news show, as a hero. They said Marvin had already expressed interesting in itâŠa sort ofâŠa segment about the reveal of my enemyâs identity!â
âAre ye fucking serious?!â Anti demanded, his mouth dropping open.
âYes.â Jackaboy nodded vigorously. âI told them I didnât want that sort of things broadcasted, that justice is not a joke but nowâŠfor this to happenâŠis the reason Marvin sent me away is so that these newscaster can set up? What the fuck is going on? Is this an elaborate ruse? Have those newscasters convinced Marvin to do this for a story?!â
âMarvinâs not like that though, is he?â Anti questioned, âHeâd know that you wouldnât want to, right?â
âI donât know.â Jackaboy spat, âThe fuck is going on?â
It was rare for the Hero to swear and Anti tilted his head, concerned. He needed to say something, anything, for support, but he was never really good at that sort of thing. So, he settled for the only thing he could do so.
âSomething tells me if ye go back to Marvin, yeâll get all the answers ye need. He made ye leave, and if he did to set up with the newscasters, then youâll know why. Heâs expecting ye return Jackaboy, and ye need to go back for the answers.â Anti couldnât stop his body from glitching at the sense of confusion, anguish and anger radiating from the Hero, and Jackaboy looked at him with a guilty expression.
âSo get gone.â Anti ordered.
âYou arenât coming?â Jackaboy asked.
âThis is personal, ainât it.â Anti replied with a shrug, âYe donât need me hanging around, seeing this happen, especially if a newscaster is there. Just make sure you bring our Marvin back.â
Jackaboy nodded and saluted Anti, who rolled his eyes but saluted him back.
âGood luck.â He whispered as the Hero disappeared. The last thing they needed was for Marvin to be truly against them. Jackaboy didnât deserve to suffer, and AntiâŠwellâŠhe really didnât want the competition.
