THE CONJURING 2 (2016)
In my opinion, it's better than the first. It has this gritty feeling to it that makes the film feel more grounded than the first despite having bigger and more extreme haunts. Like the first film, this movie uses a mixture of the viewers' own imagination, intense music, false jump scares, and actual jump scares to deliver its brand of horror. I especially love how these movies will have the background blurred, and you can see the real form of tye ghosts. this is best shown when Ed is interviewing Janet. The camera is focused on him, leaving Janet as a blurred background visual. As the ghost of the old man possesses her, her shadow becomes what he looks like, which is a really effective and creepy visual. 1 thing I was not too find of in this film was the use of CGI on the crooked man. Instead of being scary, the way he emerges from the tent and later walks in the hallway is so goofy looking. I wish instead they would have leaned into practical effects and makeup instead to make him terrifying because the CGI use here looks so out of place.
