We cancelled our trip to Germany 🇩🇪 because we thought my mother-in-law was dying. We’re glad she rallied, but we’re sad to miss our son & DIL, @queenhorsfall. We looked forward to being with them & together going to the Christmas markets in Strasbourg 🇫🇷. November & December have been weird. We didn’t even get a tree until a few days ago🎄! Since the school break began I caught up on a couple of blog posts owed to @techlicious | @ctatech and @psjh (#ad) ✍️ This time of the year is hardest for the homeless. Seattle weather is pretty inhospitable. ☔ I think yesterday set a record for the most rain in one day over the past 10 years. ⛺ Homelessness doesn’t have the same cachet as climate change🌡️maybe because people look at homelessness as a fixable problem. 🏡 Climate change is global. This year the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that if there is no shelter space, homeless people can’t be arrested or prosecuted for sleeping in public. 💤 Our city responds to encampments via a wholesale removal and cleanup of a campsite, 🚜 then barricading the area. ⚠️ I think it makes some people feel better because they don’t have to reminded of the problem. Out of sight isn’t always out of mind, however. Many homeless people have mental health issues. 🤯 I’ve been asked to help bring awareness to some good work Providence St. Joseph delivers to the homeless community including mental health services.
