hey, don't fret or stress yourself out. take breaks. step back. then go back and write. there is nothing wrong with admitting you need a breather or two or three.

I'm writing a novel based in part on my brothers death and I feel the same way.
I'm so sorry... and I wish you all the best of luck finding a path to that story that honors your memories of him.

can i ask what the project is about? and really admire your determination to find that balance
It's a very dramatic erotic romance, exaggerated and larger than life and not memoir-ish at all, but it's also the first time I've ever written an Asian woman protagonist and POV. I feel like I've been building up to this for a long time. There's also a kind of internalized respectability politics and self-censorship at play. Women like this are supposed to be ornamental or tragic silent victims, not star in their own stories. But here's the blurb.
Amy knew she’d never have a Cinderella story. No magic carriage—she walked away from the ashes on her own, and signed her first porn contract the day she turned eighteen. The money’s been good, but she knows it’s time for her to walk away again before the life drags her down.
Emanuel, a mysterious political exile whose guitar chords enthralled the generation before Amy, was an idol for her, a cult legend. When she meets him at an industry party, they bond over an uncommon, shared sobriety. He tells her the band is reuniting for a tour, but the lead singer—a brilliant, charismatic wreck—had a heroin relapse and needs a sober companion to keep him from ruining everything all over again. Can she stay by their side and sign an unusual long-term contract that includes equal measure of control and sexual submission?
Amy accepts, even though her feelings for Emanuel already go deeper than sex, and she knows that’s dangerous for her hard-fought independence. What happens after she becomes their paid companion tests all of her resources, but the magic she stopped believing in now seems to lie in Emanuel’s hands…
