– Owlfly larvae – Feast your eyes on the owlfly larvae. They look like something out of a nightmare-ish alien movie, but even though the photo makes it look big I can assure you that this isn't even a centimeter long. However, they are voracious predators and are usually found (very well camouflaged) in leaf litter and on trees. The larvae will lay in wait for prey to walk in between their oversized mandibles, and BAM! they snap shut, sometimes even severing them in half. Once their prey has been caught they will feeding on the body liquids within.
