Why pay for MacKeeper when Onyx is Free
Many times when supporting clients Mac computers I often see the commercial software MacKeeper installed. The software provides a number of maintenance tasks on your Mac but many of these tasks can be performed using the Free utility software Onyx.
To quote from the Titanium Onyx website... “OnyX is a multifunction utility that you can use to verify the startup disk and the structure of its system files, to run miscellaneous maintenance and cleaning tasks, to configure parameters in the Finder, Dock, Safari, and some of Apple's applications, to delete caches, to remove certain problematic folders and files, to rebuild various databases and indexes, and more.”
When using Onyx you can be granular in choosing to run specific maintenance tasks, or alternatively you can use “Automation” to run many maintenance tasks in a single run. Most tasks require that you reboot your Mac and I strongly advice quitting any open applications when running Onyx.
