The latest updates to Apple's "home creativity" software provided the cover story for this issue. I have to admit it was the last issue of MacLife I received before I let my subscription lapse; I'd just got to the point, and perhaps in the prior days of MacAddict itself, of anticipating certain non-Apple-related opinions (pop culture commentary) in it I was bound to dislike. MacLife did continue to be printed until 2023, although in looking up that date I did notice it still appears to have a digital edition.

Some of the "fifty things" to know provided in this issue included a capsule history of Apple, "why OS X is better than Windows," and command line tips in Terminal. The news section, reacting to Steve Jobs appointing a deputy during a six-month medical leave of absence, asked "Who is Tim Cook?"

The latest announcements from Apple provided the cover story in this issue, although sidebars asked what would happen to Mac Expo with Apple having decided to no longer announce on someone else's schedule and offered back-of-the-envelope suggestions of what would have been far more impressive to announce anyway. The wind-powered recharging gadget at the top of the cover seemed most useful attached to a bicycle in motion.

Creative projects (from Nike sneakers to public service videos to raise awareness of cyber-bullying) provided the cover story for this issue. There was also an article about someone taking astrophotographs.

Concepts for what "Steve could reveal" provided the cover story for this issue, starting with the "triBook" (which would have a touchpad taking up the entire palm-rest area below the keyboard and was held to be far superior to the MacBook Air) and going on to the "GameDock" (you'd plug your iPhone into it to boost its clock speed and put its graphics on your big-screen TV), "LMac" (whose pieces would offer "significantly more 'clutch power' than that of the typical LEGO brick"), and holograph-projecting "iCom." Actual updates to the MacBook Pro took up much less of the cover.

Turning to my own back issues of MacLife, I scanned in a cover leading into a feature article that just might have begun to address the question of "what is Apple beyond Steve Jobs?" Not all of the ten top "Apple influencers" worked for the company, in any case.
