This is a video we did awhile back and it still is very on the point. A few games have since been released on other formats, but many are still only on PlayStation Portable. Sony now want a digital future, but are happy to close it's digital store, make of that what you will. The stores are set to close in July 2027, no full date has been given.

Some games on this list got retail releases in North America, but not Europe. Growlanser IV Wayfarer of Time & Prinny 2 are examples of this. While others are far cheaper to download, than buy a retail UMD version of these days.

Whole mix of genres here and these are largely great games a few like the Generations of Chaos are a bit mixed. Growlanser IV Wayfarer of Time is one that I purchased this week to check you can still download to the PSP and it's a great tactical RPG as is the whole series.

Note that you will need either a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita to buy PSP games and both stores are very messy to use these days. Also some game may appear in one store and not the other.

Also downloading to PSP is very slow, since the transfer feature between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable no longer works and will just error if you use it.

If you intend to download to your PSP check your router can see it first, many modern router can't. As they don't support the older PSP Wi-Fi security.

So in order for me to download I had to create a Wi-Fi hotspot on my app phone via my router. Not all phones, can do this. Then I had to connect my PSP to my phone'S Wi-Fi hotspot.

Then access my download list once connected via my PSP. I should note that the PSP download speed is not fast. It took me an hour and a half to download Growlancer which is just under 1GB. UMD can hold a max of about 1.8GB.

That said not that many games are 1GB and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC is one of the few games to use two UMD and is just over 2.2GB in total. In that case UMD 1 & 2 are two separate downloads.

The PSP wasn't really designed with downloading that much in mind and it wasn't until around firmware 5.0 the shop was added.

I will be covering the best PSP games in general to buy at some point in the near future and PlayStation 3. Not sure about PSVita titles that will have to be a list you suggest, as we never owned one.
