On today’s daydreaming that makes me feel like this when i finally put it into words
I want to write a Digimon Adventure fanfic— the main group still is the same group of kids that are destined to save the Digital World, i won’t change (mostly) of their backstory nor their crests. BUT, their Digimon partner are not the same from the show.
The “big deal” with this AU is the fact that their Digimon partners aren’t any Digimon, they’re all the villains from the series: Myotismon, Piedmon, Mugendramon, Metalseadramon, Puppetmon— you know the whole crew. And i have been thinking what their evolution lines should be! And this is what i came up with totally original do not steal idea— a quick warning first, i tried my best to NOT put Digimon from later shows; i wanted this scenario to feel like it could have been possible to happen when the franchise first started. And no color swaps too, they would so boring… where’s the fun in making an alternative universe with different Digimon partners if they’re just gonna be the evil doppelgängers of said Digimon??

Let’s start with Taichi Kamiya, the goggle boy!
Gazimon > Devidramon > Megadramon > Machindramon/Mugendramon
(Gazimon was supposed to be Matt’s partner at first, but i changed. I think it makes more sense for Tai having this mischievous creature as his rookie, after all, there’s an episode where a bunch of them took over a village of Koramon! Of course this would be the Digimon that substituted Agumon! And i believe there’s no need to explain as to why Mugendramon is his partner, right? But i wanted to explain why i didn’t chose Skullgreymon as the Ultimate—
Both can digivolve to the Digimon version of Mecha Godzilla, but Megadramon is showed to be one of Mugendramon’s underlings in Adventure and his metal parts compose Mugendramon’s body too— it’s more visual appealing to me the way the evolution line is now). (However!)
(I did thought about an alternative line for Tai’s partner, where Skull is included!
Goblimon > Ogremon > Skullgreymon > Mugendramon!
Both lines were really fun to brainstorm around— the partner personality and backstory changes depending of the rookie i picked, and although both are really cool, i prefer what i have made for Gazimon so far.
Still, you never know, changes can still happen).
Next.
Kari’s partner! And it’s not BlackTailmon. Like i said before, no color swaps. I did thought about giving her Lady Devimon though, but something better appeared—
Candmon > Wizardmon > Myotismon > ???
(Yes, Wizardmon!! Him and Tailmon are still doomed by the narrative by the way. Tailmon is the one that sacrificed herself to save Kari and Wizardmon). (I’m still unsure about if he really should achieve his Mega… I mean, Venommyotismon exists, duh, the thing is with Venom is that he’s a beast moved by desire. The story isn’t about Holy Digimon being the bad guys for the sake of it nor Dark Digimon being morally good. I will talk about this later, but i will say that the kids aren’t the only ones dealing with issues here). Next.
Sora! Thinking about her partner basically changed everything i wanted with this fic and it’s when this AU went from good to great!
Muchomon > Kokatorimon > Parrotmon > Gryphonmon
(I know Muchomon never appeared in the anime, but he did in the first Digimon World’s game!
Muchomon is the perfect evil rookie here. Him and his fucking sibling are the biggest enemies of entertainment. You want to achieve all the medals and reach 100% prosperity of File City? Good luck with those BASTARDS). (Anyway, Parrotmon was the thing that turned this swap fanfic into its own story— it was only a funny ideia of “evil Digimon being used for good”, but then small changes turned into major ones and i will talk about them later).

Mushmon > RedVeggiemon > Cherrymon > Puppetmon
(I was thinking Puppetmon being Mat’s Mega at first, but nah, it would be funnier if he was Mimi’s partner, after all, she has the sincerity crest and Puppetmon is Puppetmon). (By the way, Cherrymon here will have his original look here, the one from Digimon World 1! I think it fits better).

Izumi, i tried my best with his partner evolution line.
Dokunemon > Snimon > Scorpiomon > HerculesKabuterimon
(I had no choice here, Hercules was the ONLY MEGA BUG that existed at time!!)
(Maybe i will change the line to Kokuwamon > Kuwagamon > Okuwamon > HerculesKabuterimon, because Hercules reach this final form with the data of Kabuterimon and Kuwagamon–species, it would make more sense… but this would change everything i was thinking for Dokunemon and Izumi, unfortunately).

Joe, i don’t have much to say about him and his partner for now.
Botamon > Seadramon > Megaseadramon > Metalseadramon
(Botamon was introduced alongside Agumon and now he finally has time to shiny! lol!!) (Originally the Rookie was Gekomon, because i thought it would be funny… then i learned this GUY IS NOT A ROOKIE, HE’S A CHAMPION). (I’m always being bamboozled by this franchised man, i swear— it’s like feeling fooled once again, just like when i learned that Pumpkinmon is not a Rookie, nor a champion, HE’S A FUCKING ULTIMATE).
(Anyway) Next!
TK is another favorite, this kid and his partner will go through a lot.
Picodevimon > Devimon | Picodevimon > Soulmon > Phantomon > Piedmon
(Originally, Myotismon was the Ultimate, and the line would be Picodevimon > Devimon > Myotismon > Piedmon, however, i didn’t want to repeat—Kari’s Wizardmon would digivolve to Myotismon, so i had to make a sacrifice here. Big sad cause the line would be perfect. BUT, that gave me an idea that will cause so much angst). (As you can see, TK’s partner originally digivolved to Devimon, but after he was reincarnated, he evolves to Soulmon— those Picodevimon are complete different people and TK needs to learn that).
And finally! The last kid!
Matt! It was DIFFICULT to choose who his partner should be and what he would digivolve to— i was changing his partner every time, and this is what i could came up with.
Gizamon > Apemon > Etemon > Metal Etemon
(I thought about the possibility of Kimeramon, but he’s not a Mega Digimon— Millenniummon is, and needs to fuse with Machindramon) (Can’t let Matt without a Mega) (I don’t really regret giving him Etemon though, i think their dynamic could be really funny— Etemon has the vibes of an unemployed, “ride or die” friend. Can be pretty annoying at times and definitely will put you in shit situations, but he will be the first to put his hands in the fire to save his friend).
(One more thing: Matt’s Etemon would look like Etemonkey from the manga V-tamers. He finally has a human friend!!)

Now, i will talk about some general ideas.
The story isn’t about good Digimon being bad and the other way around— it’s about overcoming bad habits, behavior, overcome your programming.
Evolution. Here, all the digitamas were corrupted by Apocalymon, and when all of his children fully achieved their final forms, they would kill the ones that nurtured them, and finally completing their mission: bring the world to a new era, full of sorrows. (or something something “to show how painful it feels to keep adapting and still finding new problems”. Apocalymon is the fusion of Digimon that couldn’t keep adapting anymore to the changing times. I’m still thinking why they did this, and i need some criticism here). The kids still have their original crests and they’re still meant to save both worlds— but they’re hunted by good Digimon because those Digimon believe they’re doing what is best for their world. It’s a tough situation, because it’s children being involved with something they have no idea it could mean the end of the world— (“why not kill just their Digimon?” Because they will revive. As long as those kids stay around, they will inevitably met). (“How do they know they will cause the world destruction?” Idk, still thinking about that. Prophecy? Fighting against destiny cause fuck it, power of friendship let’s go). (I’m still brainstorming here. Don’t know yet if this is just an emotion or a real story, know what I mean? Something that feels right but it’s not meant to work. That’s why i’m showing so people can call me out, i’m not smart nor a perfect storyteller, but i want to learn).
(Anyway), most of the Digimon they deal with are good people. This whole situation now reminds me of Undertale for some reason, Lol— the Digimon are desperate, bad shit is happening around them and killing the humans will (not really) fix everything. But, after meeting the children, they change their minds!
Leomon for example, he accepted the request of Pidmon (guy that will take the place of Devimon in this fic) to kill the Digidestined, believing they’re messiahs of chaos, however, when he finally met them, he didn’t the courage to kill the kids— it was against his honor to hurt the weak. A lot of Digimon are unsure about those kids actually meaning any harm (this will change after they kill some Digimon though. They don’t kill for shits and giggles, of course, they killed because they’re trying to kill them first! It was kill or be killed! The thing is, this brings A LOT of bad consequences for the Digital World— i was thinking about them killing a Lilymon. After killing her, the place where they had battle with her turned into a desert after Tai return from the human world for the first time— all life died in that place. They killed the person that was taking care of it after all! And this will cause conflicts between the Digidestined and their partners, while the kids are worried of being the “bad guys” of the prophecy, their Digimon Partners are more worried about surviving— oh boy, this discussion doesn’t help any of them. This only bring more stress for both parties).
Oh, the Digimon Partners have internal conflicts and will fight with their Tamers. All of them.
Wizardmon has to deal with a terrible bloodlust, that increases everyday since Tailmon has perished— he has to deal with grief of losing a friend and the fear of losing control over his own vengeance desires (if he does lose this battle, he turns into VenomMyotismon);
Gazimon has problems with her emotions (yes, she, cause Machindramon is just a girl to me), she doesn’t understand her and other Digimon emotions (Alexithymia), and gets easily frustrated too (the only emotions she can tell very well: anger and numbness) (she also has low affective empathy and this will stay until the end. What she will learn is cognitive empathy, she start to reflect about other people feelings, sometimes her own, and tries to give the best solutions or solve the problem herself). (Will probably need some help here with this character though, i myself have low affective empathy, but she has it worse than me and i don’t have Alexithymia);
Muchomon hates herself so much that she can’t handle herself when she makes mistakes. She’s really self-aware of her main “problem”: She can’t fly. Everyone bird made sure she knew that. She mask her sadness with anger, she will attack if she’s reminded one more time she can’t fly. And when she finally wins her wings, she start to get jealous of the others for doing it better than her— she always wants to be the best, because that means she has worth inside her team, and when she loses and is carried in battle… she feels so small again. And this makes her angry, then jealous. Why others always have it better than her??
(I still need to polish the internal conflicts of the others yet. Sorry).
I think that’s it??
(Actually, almost forgot to explain why Parrotmon changed everything— like i said before, this was only supposed to be a fun idea of what their evil Digimon evolution line would be. But when i started to think about Sora’s partner, Parrotmon was the only ultimate i could use, and i was fine with that! But then i thought “wouldn’t that mean that now she has the same Digimon that fought Greymon?”, and the ideas just started popping up everywhere.
if you watched the Digimon Movie, you know that this is the Digimon that fought Greymon. So the first big change i did was that Sora found the other digitama, that for obvious reasons wasn’t enormous, and it kept evolving until it reach to Parrotmon! At same time, Kari and Tai were taking care of other Digitama, that still evolved to a Greymon.
The thing is, Parrotmon would be the one that made the sacrifice to stop Greymon’s rampage through the city here).
(My mind works in a funny way, things start simple, then Boom, i just start to complicate things more and more). (Does anyone relate to this? lol!)
