2 Tage waren wir in Machalilla, einen kleinen Fischerdorf mit einem wunderschönem Naturschutzgebiet. Im Sommer ziehen hier Whale und Schildkröten ihren Nachwuchs groß. Blaufußtölpel, Fregattvögel, Pelikane, und viele andere Vögel können hier aus nächster Nähe beobachtet werden. Im Riff gibt es unzählige Fische.
Wir haben in einem kleinen Guest House gewohnt. Der Gastgeber Juan Carlos ist super nett, hat uns viele Tipps gegeben, was wir alles in der Umgebung machen können. Am Abend hat er ein Lagerfeuer für uns gemacht und wir sind ins plaudern gekommen. Hier hat er uns von seinen Bemühungen erzählt, Machalillas tolles Naturschutzgebiet zu erhalten. Der Bürgermeister ist dabei, einen Bau für ein Tanklager für Schiffstreibstoff zu genehmigen. Das wäre ein Disaster für das Riff und seine Bewohner. Unter andrem läuft eine Petition dagegen und andere Aktivitäten, um auf das Problem aufmerksam zu machen und die Menschen zu bilden und sensibilisieren.
Spontan hat Stefan Bilder und Videos von dem Naturschutzgebiet gemacht und den Aktivisten zur Verfügung gestellt. So sind wir zu einer gratis Botstour durch das Riff gekommen.
Two days of surfing in Montañita went by so quick, and now is time to approach to our next stop, Baños de Agua Santa. We have a full riding day today, going back to the Ecuadorean Sierra. After Isla de la Plata, our tour took us to #Montanita, an hour south for some good surfing and chilling by the beach. We also had to prepare ourselves for the climbing of Cotopaxi on day 8.
