Mabon at Hogwarts
Because today’s Mabon and if wizards were actually pagan, wiccan, etc instead of Christian they would be celebrating it, so... here you go!
-The second that the clock strikes midnight, all of the dorms were covered with pumpkins, leaves, and wayyyy too many apples.
-This is a tradition that most of the house still does every fall equinox.
-Typically, they have a challenge, which has hurt more people than it sounds like it would, in the dorms to beat the record of the most apples eaten on that day.
-The next day, there are millions of apple cores layed around the castle, about a dozen students in the hospital wing room after trying to shove one too many apples down their throats, and everyone being the most healthy than they will all year, right before they go back to barely touching anything healthy.
-Usually, the Gryffindors are all in the hospital wing the next day with the Slytherins as they swear that they won’t go this overboard the next year.
-No one ever keeps that promise.
-The Hufflepuffs made a mixture years ago of a never ending apple drink that keeps counts of how many apples they drink that day.
-So far, only a few other people from other houses now how to correctly brew it, but the Hufflepuffs always gladly brew them for other people.
-Ravenclaw students work with most of the Hufflepuffs that day trying to make new ways to consuming even more apples.
-Other things that they’ve attempted over the years are trying to turn the apples into air, making a way to have it constantly going into their mouth (which hurt even more people that year), and putting apples into their bloodstream, which luckily someone pointed out that putting apples into your blood and eating them aren’t the same thing.
-Madam Pomfrey was very relieved when that one failed.
-Every year, the feast in the great hall is just as giant as they are during Yule.Â
-With most everything being made of apples (the house elves soon learned that no one touched anything else because of the stupid challenge)
-On occasion, they made a bunch of pumpkins and potatoes look exactly like apples so when a little device that everyone has to automatically write how many apples you’ve ate doesn’t go up, there is a sigh of sadness followed along with a extra burst of apple eating.
-Along with the apple inventions, the houses would come up with a bunch of weird ways to use the fallen leaves.
-Some students try to figure out what potions the leaves could be useful in while others tried to charm them to rain down on someone all day.
-(The second idea was the far more popular one)
-There’s also been a few ideas of ways to use the pine cones and acorns. Most of which do more harm than good.
-In the greenhouse, if the students have class that day, most of the class consists of harvesting all the plants that were in need of a good cutting.Â
-Most of the students say that this day is one of the most calming but hurried class they have every year.
-Typically, Professor Sprout brings in a few flying instruments so that they can hear some upbeat but soft music as they run around, trying to find enough room in the greenhouse to begin the drying process of all the plants.
-Later in the day, most people start to organize their rooms a little.
-(Mainly to put in more decorations later, but also just for the rare feeling of a non chaotic room.)
-And nearing the end of the day, everyone starts to pick up all the messes they made that day.
-This is the one day that the teachers don’t get too furious about the mess because they know someone will clean it up before the day’s over.
-Unless they want a repeat of the one year that they forgot to clean it all up.
-At the end of the day, it’s common to find some of the students sitting outside in front of a giant bonfire near the lake watching the sunset making a few little crafts.Â
-A few of them grab a few leaves and write down a bunch of bad habits and later throw the dried leaves into the fire.Â
-Or just collecting all the leaves and writing their goals for the year for cute decorations later.Â
-While others sit inside near a fireplace sipping apple cider and eating more food.Â
-Just enjoying the colder weather.
