Cyberdeck building process so far: ordered two different Bluetooth keyboards. One has a trackpad mouse on it, which is a nice extra. Ended up buying the other because it doesn't so it saves space.

The struggle was however trying to find mini keyboard with Nordic QWERTY since I do wanna be able to use Ä, Ö and Å -letters. The one with a trackpad doesn't have them, but it does have extra buttons so technically I could just tweak the settings? I guess?? Either way it was the main reason I ended up buying the other keyboard too.

#the thing about trying to build this thing is that trying to find stuff easily and as cheap is harder when living in Finland #these were basically the only mini Bluetooth keyboards I could find that I could order from inside the country #ordering from Amazon any stuff is basically out of question because the shipping and customs are EXPENSIVE in this country #I can however order stuff from inside Europe #anyway I'm thinking of going with just Raspberry Pi because there's so much help and tutorials about it online #gonna do research which version tho #cyberdeck #mab does tech

So I actually cancelled my Spotify subscription a month ago after using Spotify for ten years (I got the Spotify birthday thingy a day before my sub came to an end and it confirmed I have used Spotify since 2016 as a paying customer, which feels insane). Main reason is honestly because it's too expensive these days, but also I don't like the stuff Spotify has been doing these past years (if you know you know, if you don't pls Google I don't have the energy to go into details of everything). Also my newfound tech interest gave me the big push to do it finally because I had decided to start using mp3 players again.

Anyway, I mentioned to my mother that I was looking old mp3 players (or old phones to turn into dumb phones with music) from thrift shops. And she goes "oh I still have that old mp3 player we bought for your brother when you were teens that he never ended up using at all. Do you want it?"

And io and behold I got it today, plugged it in to load the battery and it indeed works! And it's an old Philips Gogear Vibe which seems to be very easy to get music load into it and use in general!

I.... did it? I think?? I managed to change my old Chromebook's OS to Linux Mint!

Honestly for the past three to four hours I have been troubleshooting since my original install ended in grub-install /dev/mmcblk1 fatal error which was not a fun experience. Never used the grub before so learning how to navigate that to get the whole system boot over and over again was an...uh...experience. At the end of the day I decided to try for one last time to do the whole installation again, the same stuff I did the first time, and to see what happens. And somehow this time there was no error??? Idk what could have changed but yeah. I have Linux Mint on my old Chromebook now. Finally.

Also it's literally midnight and I am so so so tired.

#yay but damn that took a lot of work #noticed tho that the screen has started to flash (which did start during the installation) so I do need to figure out what's causing that #I did have to pry open the whole laptop couple times so hopefully there's no damage on any wires to the screen #Chromebooks are not made easy to open up let me tell you that #the whole process today took me closer to six hours ngl #and I did do several hours worth of research of this whole thing before hand #so you really gotta have patience with this stuff #Linux Mint #mab does tech #edit:#the flashing/flickering might be just an issue with the saving mode #seems that the screen won't do it untill it starts to lower the brightness etc.#also hoping that doing the updates might have an automatic fix to it #we'll see

Got inspired by my new obsession with cyberdecks, and thus I have decided that I'm also gonna try to change my old end-of-life Chromebook's OS to Linux.

I can't really use that old Chromebook because of the end-of-life thing (Chromebooks suck fyi never buy them. learn from my mistake.) but it has sentimental value to me since I used it in uni through my bachelor's. And I like how small and easily portable it is (plus it has my nice stickers on it). Installing Linux on it instead of the Chrome OS also allows me to learn how Linux works which is something I've always wanted to try.

#I really have no reason to ever otherwise use that Chromebook so if the whole thing fails it's ok #it allows me to test tech stuff with no pressure since idc of the old device #gonna go slow tho and try learn stuff first about the whole thing before starting anything #but fun!#Chromebook #Linux #mab does tech

So I got my old teenage years' radio-boombox-cd-/cassette-player from my mom (thank youuuu for mom not ever throwing it away!) and apparently you can record to an empty cassette not only from the radio (which is already cool but meh) but actually also from cds!

Anyway, at the age of 30yo making my first mixtape. Exciting.

#I think if the cassette recording works out I'll buy one of those new portable little cassette players #so I can be coolest kid in the block with my old school tech at the grocery store shopping trips #mab does tech
