the woman doesn’t glance up from her flower arrangement, a breeze carried seemingly from nowhere telling her all she needs to know, the plants whispering that someone’s come as they have been all week, even more lively as spring approaches. fingers soft across a petal, she hums, “just missed the morning rush. here for the garden or the shop?”

“it’s officially winter.” a brow raises, arms cross, a peculiar smile on the goddess’ lips. “that means i am officially off-duty.” from, at the very least, half of her job. a queen never rested. 

“you’re treading awfully close to a realm you don’t belong to.” a warning, not a threat. persephone was above threats. but she also disliked trespassers and whomever this woman happened to be, she was not where she ought to have been. and the queen never let something go unnoticed; if this was merely an accident, so be it. if it was more, so be it. 

A sigh escapes the goddess’ lips, her eyes scanning the barren environment. “Winter is such a dreary time, isn’t it?”

“Would you like some tea?”She hasn’t got time for them all, as being Queen of such a vast kingdom is a full-time job. Her husband sorts them, the masses of souls that descend past their time. Most wander into the largest dominion, some into that reserved for those of particular valor, and others into the darkest realms. Persephone is there to take the ones who may be sorted differently, if they wish. Hades hasn’t got the touch to handle them with care, nor the time, so used to hoarding large crowds, but the goddess of light, of life, of rebirth, knows what a drop of kindness in a barren field can do. patting the seat beside her in front of fire of her den, she offers a friendly and inviting smile. “I promise you’ve tasted nothing like it.”

like calls to like, and even if it didn’t, she kept close eyes on those that dwelled in her domain. be they the fairies or nymphs or the gentle practicers of magic that plucked the petals or borrowed honey to bring themselves happiness. the ones that returned what was taken to where it belonged. those that found peace as she did among the flowers. she watches, mostly from a distance, hardly interfering or revealing. but then there are the times where she feels it beneficial, where she seeks to get to know those that thrive the way she does. the goddess smiles, a gentle thing as she gives a small nod of greeting. “the plants like you. they’ve told me. i came to see.”
