I'm soo curious about the whole ginger cat thing! I've had (about a hundred) cats since I was 3 but about 3/4 years ago I got my first ginger cat, a male, and he doesn't meow!!! he purrs super loudly (to the point ppl are actually worried about his breathing...but I've checked with vets and he is fine) and he whiines. he makes these winy (adorable) sometimes yell-y sounds but doesn't meow! and I just recently read similar stories?? so I'm curious about your experience with gingers and meows?
Honestly my answer is an “I’m not sure”. If you’re asking about why Citra wouldn’t meow in her video, that’s a bit more specific to Citra. (A combination of lack of human interaction as a kitten and just Citra being Citra). My other orange cat, Simcoe, meows in a very sweet, high-pitched meow that uses her whole face. When she was younger we joked that it sounded like she was saying “YEAH!”. Heimdall may not be entirely orange (he’s white with orange spots), and that little dude will not STOP meowing his sweet soft raspy meow.There are a lot of cats who can and can’t, or who meow with what we consider to be “not normal” meows.. But a cat’s meow is as individual as a person’s voice. The reason they meow is typically related to their interactions with humans. Meowing = attention, so many cats will form vocal behaviors because it means it gets them MORE ATTENTION. But if it means that a whine-sound is what draws attention? Then they just might stick to that whine-sound. At the end of the day, though, meowing is still one of those things that cats developed when living with humans, which I just think is neat.
So I’m not sure if orange cats in particular have a tendency to have strange meows. Citra HAS learned to meow in her own way since I posted that video. But I also know of non-orange cats with strange meows. Look at almost any Oriental cat, they absolutely HONK when they make noise, and that’s just how that breed does it. Since “orange” isn’t necessarily a breed, it’s really hard to say. I’m not aware of any studies on it, but I encourage folks to chime in with their own personal anecdotes!

aquarius moons are so observant and are REALLY good at understanding people it’s wild. my best friend is an aquarius moon and there’s this kind of softness to her? I’ve always found aquarius moons to be heart-warming. like, they’ll really listen to you even though they may not have good advicei think the worst trait is how they’re always so detached; it’s really not good for them. always internalizing everything and really pretending to feel nothing. they never want to be seen as emotional my favorite moon sign has to be either taurus or cancer 💫
