Lyrid Meteors
The Lyrid Meteor Shower will be peaking this Thursday, April 22nd from 12 a.m-dawn. It’s radiant lies in the constellation Lyra the Harp, near the star Vega. This is Northeast in the sky! It produces about 15 shooting stars per hour, and produces the occasional fireball.
Note. The peak is Thursday morning, not Thursday night
Was that a satellite or a meteor?!
In case you were wondering what the difference is between a satellite and a meteor, here's an example of each.
I've adjusted my camera's settings to replicate the human eye as much as possible.
The two satellites at the start are part of Elon Musk's starlink and can be seen lasting up to a few minutes.
Whilst the meteors are over very quickly, lasting barely a second. The bigger meteors leave behind a brief trail after vaporising in the atmosphere.
Visit https://findstarlink.com/
for fairly accurate timings of when the satellites will be visible from your location.

Meteor Shower Time: The Lyrids!
The summer meteor shower season officially kicks off next week with the Lyrids. If you are super anxious for a meteor shower after 4 months of nothing, you might want to give this one a shot. I say this because the Moon will be up which means less meteors... you might actually want to wait a couple weeks for the less prolific Eta Aquarids which will have no Moon. But just in case you are up for the star gazing challenge, let me outline all the details on how to watch.
