Okay okay so I was reminded that lyrical dissonance exists and now I want to make a post about it
For anyone who’s unaware, lyrical dissonance is when the music doesn’t match the tone of the lyrics in a song.
Good examples include Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People and Ain’t It Fun by Paramore (among other Paramore songs). Both of these songs have pretty upbeat and happy sounding backing music but the lyrics are the complete opposite of upbeat and happy (everyone knows what Pumped Up Kicks is about at this point, and Ain’t It Fun is about being alone/on your own).
I can’t think of any songs that have a depressing tune but happy lyrics so if you know of any feel free to add them in the notes.
But anyway yeah. Lyrical dissonance is a really interesting thing and I love it.
Here’s a sickening sweet sounding dumb song I wrote when I was 17. It’s about how god doesn’t care anything about you. I have a version of me singing the entire song but nobody wants to hear that.
"मूड के ना देखो दिलबरो..."

"Don't look back, dear one..."
Listening to "Candy" and getting to the last verse be like:
