Tea Review: Lychee Black Tea (Lychee Red) Type: Black (or red) Traditional Origin: Tea from China Harvest Season: Spring-Fall Purchased from New Century Tea Co. in Seattle, WA
Review by Miles
Here is a quick review for an awesome tea. Black tea is great to begin with. It is fully oxidized, loaded with caffeine, and can be as simple or complex as you make it. Drink some "sweet tea" (black tea and sugar chilled) on a hot day, have a cup of English-style black with milk and sugar for afternoon teatime, or go fancy with some exotic black's from the East. It is hard to go wrong with black tea; it is the most widely consumed form of camelia sinensis.
Today, I'm reviewing a black tea that has been infused with lychee berries. Lychee is a sweet tropical fruit from Asia that is widely popular in flavoring or just plain. The leaves of this black were steamed in a room with sliced lychee fruit to slowly infuse the flavor. It isn't hard to describe this tea: sweet fruity aroma with a sweet fruity taste (plus some notes of the actual black tea...funny enough). It is an ideal desert tea if there is such a thing. Great any time of the day (except before bed).
I highly suggest this red (black) tea from China. While it isn't blended with fruit, it sure tastes like it is. While it may be too sweet for some, it is hard to pass on the delicious taste of lychee. Good thing this tea is popular and can be found in most Chinese tea stores (it's inexpensive too!).
