job: lead stylist and owner of salon amore.
like a chameleon, lucy has always been pretty great at adapting to her surroundings. however, she may not always go about doing so in the healthiest way. while her parents have always been caring and hands-on, lucy has grown up feeling a duty to help and care for her family, and to be the protective big sister she is sure it is expected of her to be. did this sometimes mean taking on an unnecessarily motherly role and marching her younger siblings to the door of whoever they may have been having problems with and demanding to speak to their parents? sure. was that always super helpful in the long-run? no, obviously not. but that was lucyâs way, and she has always been very stubborn in the case of âmy way or no way.â being very independent, she likes to deal with things herself, rather than involving othersâher parents included.
a part of lucy has always questioned her sexuality, always known there was something not quite traditionally straightforward (pun not intended) about the way she would look at the same sex. raised in a supportive household, she wasnât necessarily afraid of being open about her feelings, but again, her independence has seen to it that she likes to make absolutely certain of everything before involving others, so she quietly explored in her own way, before eventually revealing to a few friends at a pool party at the age of fifteen that she thought she was a lesbian. this did not go over the way lucy had hoped; her friends were disgusted and completely cast her out. perhaps the one kindness they did was not running around and telling the rest of the school, so lucy was able to lock away her sexuality as a shameful secret, scarred by their reactions and insistent on never revealing it again. to anybody; family included. even when her siblings came out as anything other than straight, lucy was incredibly supportive, but still kept her own homosexuality to herself.
relationships with boys never really stuck, but lucy would see them through enough to make them believable, until it became something of a learned behavior of hers to just always have a boyfriend. so, she struck gold when she met marc baptiste, someone who was genuinely so sweet and kind to her, and who really did seem to love her. lucy of course took advantage of this, and has been in a longterm relationship with marc for years now, despite having no actual romantic or sexual feelings for him. she loves him, just not in that way. but he doesnât know that, and neither does anybody else. her parents love him, and everyone is always asking when heâs going to pop the question, a subject lucy tends to change as swiftly as possible whenever it arises. they are both thirty-two years old, it makes sense that people are expecting them to settle down, but the idea of legally marrying a man just feels so wrong to lucy, and also even more unfair of her to do to marc.
it is fortunate that lucy has her own strong independence still; she is able to distract herself and keep herself busy with things outside of her relationship. despite them being together for years, lucy and marc do not live together; theyâll spend many nights at one anotherâs homes, of course, but lucy resides in her own apartment close to the hair salon she owns, salon amore. her work keeps her busy, and itâs something that she truly does love doing, so it really is an excellent distraction for her. because sheâs harboring such a big secret, though, sometimes lucy can be a little testy; she can be sweet as pie to her clients one minute, then find herself completely chewing someone out the next. fortunately, she looks sweet enough to get away with it, but it is a bad habit that lucy definitely needs to break.
