It wasn’t like Lucy’s feelings for her boyfriend were entirely fake. She loved him, of course she loved him; it was impossible to be with somebody for so long, to be in an intimate relationship with them, without caring about them. Still, she knew she could be somewhat standoffish where their relationship was concerned at times, the way she had been for the last couple days.
Only this time, there had been more of a reason for it.
It didn’t matter how much she tried to fight the reality, the fact was that Lucy had literally slept with her best friend only days prior, effectively cheating on her boyfriend and only further confirming a secret she’d tried to push down for so many years now. Both were terrible, terrible things in her mind, but she truly hated herself for doing anything to hurt Marc—whether he knew about it or not.
Lucy knew that it was cowardly, keeping something like this from him. It made it ten times worse, in fact. But, she couldn’t tell him, and instead opted for a little overcompensation, something she hoped, as she made her way into his home much earlier than she would usually, would go unnoticed.
She didn’t even greet him to begin with, at least not verbally, and instead simply made her way toward him and reached up to cup his cheeks with her hands. “Hi,” she finally said in a soft voice, small smile easing onto her lips. “I missed you, I hope you don’t mind me just stopping by like this.”
