tzjd fake dating it's 2030, exactly in between both of their 8-year contracts; the Flyers have just won the cup, and trevor has, for a long time, wanted to come out, and now that he has both a gold medal and a cup, the time is ripe.
he's been dating someone for a while (originally it was to get over jamie, but then it just turned into something real because they just clicked) anyways, trevor's planning on coming out and hard launching his relationship because he figures that winning a gold medal and a cup is enough for the league to not yk, exile him.
except just a few days before the matching instagram posts are supposed to go up, trevor gets dumped so bad.
now, jamie who didn't tell anyone on account of it being the playoffs, had his engagement broken before them and he's single and well, needless to say one drunken night, they both decide that hey, "we both are single, why not fake date each other to kind of get back at our exes and to reassure our moms that we aren't going to die alone".
trevor, because he knows his ex was always uncomfortable with his and jamie's relationship, how close they were, and have always been. and jamie, because he figures this way he can show tara that it is totally possible to be in a relationship and an eventual marriage with a hockey player.
so they kind of soft launch it over the summer both to their families and friends (tho the core lake house crew, jamie's buddies back in toronto and maybe tk and cam know the truth), but the real test is the nhl and just them being to keep up the farse to the world and the league
except because they are them, they inevitably realise that they've kind of always been in love.
trevor finds old feelings arising and that he never really got over jamie and jamie finds that whatever happened with them in anaheim was always going to be a forever thing.
