Elijah Moore - a firefighter by trade and father by unforeseen situation. For five years, Maverick grew up in the fire station before tragedy struck. When Elijah would go out on a call, the boy would stay back at the station with the fire chief. One day, he didn’t return from the call. The chief took him to a nice lady who had a bunch of toys in her office and that was the last he ever say of his dad or the firefighters. All he had was memories and unanswered questions and a special fire truck baby blanket. It wasn’t until a few years later did he start piecing things together and get proper answers from his social worker.

Haukur Hauksson - when the Hauksson’s first shares their interest in adopting Maverick, he was hesitant at first. He barely knew them for a month before they were asking about him becoming a permenant part of their family. At first he felt as if he accepted the adoption, he would be betraying Elijah and trying to replace him. Those thoughts started to change when it was Haukur that ran into when Maverick woke up screaming from a night terror, staying with him until he fell back to sleep. He was still there the next morning when Maverick woke up. While he’s still very reluctant to call the man dad or pabbi (the Icelandic word for dad) he has grown to love him. Not that he’ll say that either. But he does enjoy the weekend camping trips or days spent hiking. Plus the man taught him how to ride a bike, holding on to the seat to keep him steady as he ran beside Maverick as if he were a child of six rather than a fully grown teenager.

Amanda Hauksson - for most of his life, Maverick has dreamed about what it would be like to have an actual mom. He’s had countless foster mothers, even one who considered adopting him before he met the Hauksson’s. But none of them were the type of woman he thought about when he dreamt of his mom. Amanda almost fits his idea to the letter. From the moment he was placed with them, she would tuck him in every night, kissing his forehead and telling him she loved him. Every night, she insists they have a proper family dinner with everyone at the table and talking to each other. She bakes all kinds of sweet treats for the boys. After he got adopted, it was only a matter of days before he started calling her mom. He had been wanting to call her mom for almost as long as he has been with them. The only reason he didn’t was because he was scared that they weren’t actually going to adopt him.

Jökull Hauksson - from the beginning, the relationship between Jo and Maverick was a little tense. Maverick and the twins were getting a lot of their parents attention and while everyone saw their own individual therapist, things were still tense when it came to the boys interacting with each other. Maverick felt some resentment towards the younger boy since he never had to go through all of the bad shit that Maverick or the twins had to go through, he got 16 years along with parents who loved him. It was the mandatory dinners and weekend trips that brought Maverick and Jö closer together. On camping trips, they had to share a tent and when they couldn’t sleep they would try to talk, slowly getting to know each other.

Dominic Kyle - when Maverick came to life with the Hauksson’s, Dom was still in hospital. When the older boy finally came home, it was only for a small amount of time before he left again for Luxor Academy. The two never really had the chance to meet or bond much. Long weekends or holidays were really the only time they interacted. Even then it was difficult as Dom was usually out in the large backyard playing lacrosse with Haukur. Maverick thought the might get closer but it simply never happened. They are as close as new brothers can be. Even if Maverick is hurt that Dom insists that he isn’t getting adopted.

While Lia’s mother wasn’t always around when she was a little girl, she never resented her for it. Josephine made an effort to be the best mother possible for both her son and daughter, while juggling several careers along with motherhood. Lia looked up to her mother; granted, she never wanted to follow her in footsteps, as far as her choices in careers were concerned, but, though she’d likely sew her own lips shut than ever admit such a truth, she’d always admired her mother’s strength, her fearlessness. Even after the worst thing that ever happened to them, Lia’s mom remained strong. She didn’t run away or allow her grief to destroy her. She never forgot that she had another child, or acted like she didn’t want to be around Lia because her first born wasn’t alive anymore. Lia didn’t even fault her mother for choosing to send her to Luxor academy, understanding that she only had her best interests at heart and wanted her to succeed in life, the way that she had. They might not ever be as close as a mother and daughter are expected to be, but there is a bond there that will never be broken and when it comes down to it, her mother is the one person Lia has left in this world who reminds her that she still has a family and isn’t alone. She’ll forever be grateful for everything her mother has done and has yet to do, and knows that she can always rely on her for anything she needs, not just everything she wants.

Lia doesn’t believe in having enemies, in hating anyone or anything. To do so requires far too much effort, the ability to care-- which she feels she lacks. In regards to this man she can hardly refer to as a father, however? Hate does not feel like a strong enough word. He was never there for her, always acted like she and Brax were in his way. A lousy, mean drunk who spent more time away from his family than with them, undoubtedly having affairs with other women while her mother just continued doing what she did best, pretending that it didn’t bother her and putting on a smile, creating this facade of the perfect family. But there had never been anything perfect about her father. He was a liar, a cheat, a dysfunctional alcoholic with a bad head on his shoulders. A self-serving bastard, who never put the interests of the people he claimed to love before his own. Lia never liked him, never felt anything close to love for this man she refuses to acknowledge as family. The day he left was the best day of her life and if she never sees him again? She’ll rejoice.

Alfonso Russio (50)- Stefano Acoorsi

To say that Lorenzo and his father’s relationship is complicated is an understatement. The man has barely been in his life since he went off to marry his new wife, though he likes to present himself to the business world as a wonderful family man, Lorenzo will always state otherwise. While Lorenzo has always held contempt for his mother, he definitely holds blind hatred for his father; perhaps the only person in this world who can truly get a rise out of Lorenzo, daddy issue’s doesn’t even begin to describe the relationship Lorenzo has with Alfonso.

Lea Bianchi (38)- Mariska Hartigay

Lorenzo’s mother had him young, perhaps too young to fully understand how exactly to care and raise a child but she was enamored with Alfonso who presented himself as the perfect gentlemen. Once Lorenzo’s father left the family to marry someone younger, Lea began seeking out comfort in the form of Valium and champagne, spending days at a time in bed or sending herself to luxury spas for weeks at time, Lorenzo practically raised himself, though when Lea does make an appearance, she tries her best to be a good mother but having Lorenzo so young and having that disconnect from him; that intimate motherly connection was never there. When Lorenzo was younger, he wanted nothing more than to have his mother’s love yet as he got older he held nothing but contempt for the woman who opted out on raising him and spending time indulging her on whims and self-pity.

Elijah St. James (47) David Tennant

Elijah tries his best to stay out of the trouble that Elise manages to get herself into. Though he is always willing to pull out his checkbook whenever Elise gets herself in a spot of trouble and especially to keep the St. James name out of the social pages, especially if one of three children has messed up... again. Elijah spends most his time at the office, making very little time for any of his children, meaning he doesn’t know much about them at all, instead preferring to spend most his time at the office and leaving his wife to deal with the slightly wayward children. Elise tends to avoid her father for the most part, knowing that her father has a harsh temper at times.

Mary St. James (45) Naomi Watts

Poor Mary has received the brunt of Elise’s anger and frustrations for most of her life. The one who would try her hardest to present a normal family, though the absent father and seemingly angry children tends to make that a little difficult. Mary has always been the one who drives all the children to their meetings, their activities while somehow managing to rule the home and waiting dutifully for her husband to come home. Elise struggles to connect with her mother, never fully understanding why Mary seems so willing to take the brunt of everyone’s anger and never do anything about it, perhaps it’s the two bottles of wine she has for dinner each evening and the various Valium she pops throughout the day.

Makia St. James (20) Matthew Daddario

Perhaps the most level headed of the three St. James children and currently attending Yale, Makia was the one who introduced Elise to the life of partying and gave her, her first joint though he denies all of these claims, instead stating that his baby sister fell down that rabbit hole by herself. Despite appearing like the one who will be the most successful St. James offspring, most of his mishaps have been covered up- the steroid use in his senior year, getting his Prom date drunk to the point she needed medical attention, the altercation where a rival student broke their arm after falling down the stairs or even the claims that Elise made him of him hitting her various times, their parents always brushing these aside and Elise instead learning to shut-up about any claims made against her elder brother. As the years have passed, Elise has done her best to distance herself from her eldest brother, trying her best to stay away from him completely.
