Sylas/Lux

Okay Sylux is my biggest Hear Me Out ship and that's because it's a ship that's got some of the worst misunderstandings from people who don't understand Sylas, Lux, or Demacia. I am literally writing an entire novel on Ao3 continuing the Mage Rebellion past the Warriors cinematic because it's so good, the conflict and the themes and the metatextual philosophies are SO GOOD.

I rewrote this like five different times because it's just…really difficult to analyze their relationship succinctly. They're two sides of the same coin. They befriended each other, they mentored each other, they learned from each other, they cared for each other.

They betrayed each other. One out of cowardice, one out of desperation.

They left scars on each other that will never fade entirely, and they will never forgive themselves for this.

Sylux has a lot in common with Ekko/Jinx and TF/Graves. The pain of caring so deeply about someone even after they hurt you. Losing someone you knew so well that without them, it feels like a part of you is lost, and you don't know how to make it okay again. The difficulty of making it okay again, of putting in the effort, of making compromises, because it's worth it. The investment is worth it. We are worth it.

But if you wish, in another flavor it's more like Vander/Silco or Leona/Diana. We have tried to understand each other and can't. We can't reconcile the differences between us. I cared about you once, but the hurt is too strong. I will never move on from this. Like two orbiting planets, we will destroy each other or fall apart, and I will always wish that things could have been different.

…..ugh, that word vomit still feels so insufficient.

Basically: I think Sylas and Lux's character arcs are heavily intertwined with both each other and Demacia's future. Patching up their relationship is a parallel to bringing Demacia's civil war to an end. I like my ships when they interact on a meta level, okay? When it's deeper than just "I love their chemistry." Sylas and Lux are both compassionate nerds who care about their country and share the same dream for it. Peak friends to enemies to friends to lovers.

(Not to mention, I have folks reading my fanfic who didn't ship Sylux originally but ended up coming around on it 😏)

Garen/Katarina

I ship it! It's so much deeper than people tend to think it is. Garen and Katarina both have issues with blind loyalty, both were bred and raised to be weapons, and they bring each other a fresh perspective. They can unlearn their country's propaganda through each other ❤️

Draven/Riven

AHAHAHAHA OHHHH THE DRAMA. I have several Riven ships ripe with drama, lol. The tension between them in the Awaken cinematic was so good.

Caitlyn/Vi

I ship it, but honestly I liked their League versions better before Arcane reimagined them. Mostly because Caitlyn got changed in a way that made me like her a lot less in season 2. Originally she was a genuine good cop (yes ACAB but bear with me), and we don't really see the aftermath of her stepping down from being a leader in Arcane. Corruption arcs are AWESOME. But she didn't really get much of a redemption arc after it. The narrative kinda brushed over that part.

Lucian/Senna

PEAK. ULTIMATE GIRLBOSS/WIFEGUY. WENT TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH TO SAVE HER AND DIDN'T CAUSE A FUCKING APOCALYPSE OVER IT, VIEGO. ENOUGH SAID.

Zeri/Ekko

A fairly neutral ship for me. Zeri is kind of lacking in relevance to Zaun champs in a lot of ways, unfortunately.
