Spend time this Easter with Giovanni della Robbia’s magnificent Resurrection of Christ, which returned to the galleries last summer following extensive conservation treatment. Forty-six individual terracotta pieces together illustrate Christ’s resurrection before an attendant group of angels, guards, and the sculpture’s 16th century donor—depicted as a witness to the event. Throughout the brightly glazed garland frame, fruit, flora, and animals replete with their own symbolic meaning connect the narrative lunette to the abundant natural world.⁣⁣
