I recently finished this beauty for a client in Brooklyn — Defonte’s, the great Italian sandwich shop in Red Hook. (Prints available via linktree in bio.) First time I went here I knew I was someplace special. The real deal. Sandwiches as big as ya friggin ARM, I tell ya. I even ordered a few dozen for an art show I had at Sunny’s Bar, and they were great to work with. Gave me well more than I’d paid for. Just a damn delight. The first avocado I’ve had from my neighbors’ tree, this year! You can’t buy these at the store, and they are SO worth waiting for. Tried another new place for lunch, today: @3chefsandchicken on the corner of Red & US 1. Another entry in the “fast casual” (a la Chipotle) concept, but with a couple of nice twists and additions. This was the Sweet Potato Stack (sans bacon, to one of the Chefs’ dismay). Giant sweet potato, white meat chicken, guac, sour cream, cheese, and (my choice) a delicious chipotle sauce. VERY generous portions (I took half of it home), very reasonable prices. Looking forward to trying some of the other stuff on their expansive menu!
