This is Luke Grunts (the guitarist) and Ian Fraser (drummer) of cleopatrick, an awesome Canadian band out of Cobourg, Ontario. I had taken this shot at the festival North by Northeast (NXNE) this summer as I had gotten the approval of being a media designate. I was beyond ecstatic, needless to say, I have been shooting photography on a camera ever since!
June of this year (2019) is the year I had taken the plunge into photography. I used to take photos with my cellphone (Blackberry only, please) and I would write articles about musicians. It wasn’t until I was covering a Film Festival (Toronto International Spring of Horror) that I got to ask writer Ben Soper (Far from the Apple Tree) a few questions that I got the taste for interviews and reporting.
I had always been interested in photography as an art, but I always thought that it would be too late for me (I am 32) to start such an endeavour. So I wrote instead, I figured that I would be better at that. Mind you, there are probably a lot of younger or similar aged people that write fantastically more wonderful than I do, so really I am losing either way.
Yet that’s the whole idea, it doesn’t matter that there is someone who has more talent or opportunity, they’re younger or they’ve just been doing it longer than you; doesn’t mean you can’t start. If you want to learn Mandarin at 50, go and fucking do it.
