Juzo isn’t startled when he feels the weight of Kuroiro’s head against his shoulder. In fact, he’s almost gotten used to the close proximity. He’s never been particularly bothered by breach of personal space anyway, but Kuroiro is certainly someone he almost longs for closeness with.

This is truly a blessing.

“Long day?” he asks, though it’s mostly rhetorical. His hand comes up and cards through Kuroiro’s hair with a contented hum.

pathroyale has consumed me so let’s think about it for a second. dear calvin has spent his entire life trying to be anything but his parents - he avoids alcohol and he tries desperately to control his temper and molds himself into the perfect son for steve, the perfect leader for the movement. he’s eager to avoid the darkest parts of himself so it makes sense that he’d fall in love with sarah, who was born into the “light” and who he considers to be a “fucking angel”.

in some crack alternate universe, he meets le chiffre. and jean duran is a bad guy, through and through. and he loves being bad, he’d never change for anybody. but maybe he’s kind to animals. maybe he plays the violin. maybe, even though he’s a lord of crime, he was still born from a mother and a father who he cares about deeply and sends money to every christmas.

and maybe cal is attracted to that strange balance of darkness and light, to this man who seems to have achieved perfect harmony, even though he’s such a terrible person on the surface. perhaps le chiffre sees the parts of cal that he’s tried to bury for so long and accepts them without speaking a word, because he knows wickedness and what’s inside cal is not evil - it’s just a part of him.
