The apprentices were initially scared when those strange plants made them woozy. The medicine cat informed them that although it was stupid to eat them, it wasn’t fatal.
It wasn’t long after learning that that they decided to sneak out and try the berries again.
They hit a problem when a younger apprentice, Treepaw, followed them and demanded to be allowed to try some as well, lest she tells on them. They didn’t want to get in trouble, so they gave in. Besides, it would look funny seeing someone try the berries for the first time.
When Treepaw wanted to return to her nest though the night was still dark, Lowpaw offered to walk her home. Treepaw had begun to complain about still being treated like a kit. Lowpaw responded that she was already growing into a very pretty she-cat.
Treepaw got uncomfortable, focusing on their walk. Lowpaw pushed, saying she just felt weird because of the plants, and then she ran, and he chased her.
It had never been his intention to kill her, not until she ran and he realized that she would squeal.
He buried her beneath the soil of a stream. Surely no one would find her then. And they didn’t.
Treepaw remained missing through Lowthorn’s warrior ceremony, through battles and gatherings. Her parents passed without knowing where their young daughter had gone, or if she was even still alive.
And Lowthorn was.... well, he was whatever the opposite of remorseful is. When he noticed another young she-cat, he didn’t hesitate to try his moves on her. But like Treepaw, she ran.
Unlike Treepaw, she had the fortune of not having had dizzying berries before running. Lowthorn had to take a breath, stopping beside the roots of a giant fallen tree.
Then he heard creaking.
Additional Information:
--You can probably guess what the berries represent.
--Character taken from Tanya in 9-1-1′s newest season, which I really enjoyed! Obviously some changes. I just wanted to put the warning above and not just after in case you wanted to watch it for yourself first. Specifically, it is The Devil You Know (on Prime Video).
--The tree thing was also taken from season 6 (different episode). It explains how trees that fell over in storms and stuff can lift back up again if wind sweeps the debris off. Basically he was crushed beneath a standing tree. Depending on how sturdy it was after that (its roots were uprooted), he was missing for some time.
