Love Thy Nerd wrote a couple of articles about Furries and the fandom that I think Christians could really learn from.
The furry fandom is not about fetish or porn for a lot of people. It definitely has those origins, and it would be foolish to deny that aspect. But a lot of it is about identity, community, openness, freedom and creativity in the face of a cruel world that discourages and openly opposes these things.
Furries are immensely passionate folks that support each other well and bear each others burdens. I think that’s something that we Christians can relate to, as we are called to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ in the same way! And we are called to have a similar level of passion about God and the Word as well as being open about our struggles with God and other believers!
We have the unique opportunity to introduce to the furry fandom a community and identity in Jesus that is even sweeter, more fulfilling, and best of all will continue into eternity! We can speak life and victory into the struggles of the furry fandom, whether it be prideful behavior, relational brokenness, loneliness, or being trapped as slaves to sexual sin. We can share the gospel with furries and offer them all of these things, plus true freedom and completeness in Christ!
If you’d like to read the articles mentioned, they are here and here! And feel free to shoot us an ask if you have any questions, concerns or comments!
