Advice for Remy, Day 22. There's no such thing as 'bad' weather, just the wrong clothes. Okay, so that's not strictly speaking true - a good solid waterproof won't protect you from a hurricaine or a tornado - but generally speaking the nature of weather is a matter of opinion. So many people refer to our normal winter weather - lashing rain, high winds, storms and even snow - as 'bad' weather which, for me, is such a shame. Some of us love the time of year where the weather is 'bad', when you have to wrap up warm to take the dog for a walk, light the fire, crank up the central heating and get all cosy under a high tog duvet in bed. I remember as a child getting really excited when a storm came over at night, and dad would take us upstairs, turn off the lights and sit with us by the window to watch it, marvelling at how loud the thunder was or how spectacular the lightning looked. He'd also get excited if we were in the car and it was lashing down with rain outside - so hard that you could hear the drops pelting off the metal of the roof. I still feel like that now whenever it gets really stormy and I'm laid in bed, listening to the wind and rain battering the bedroom windows (albeit now with the added 'adult' worries of whether the garden fences will be okay in the morning). Some of us just aren't keen on hot temperatures or endless sunny summers, and crave the log fire time of year, so for weather forecasters to start their reports with "It's going to be another day of bad weather out there" is frustrating. Don't be fooled into thinking that sun equals good, no sun equals bad. Anyone who thinks that clearly hasn’t fully appreciated building a snowman, or sitting by a roaring fire in a country pub, or been for a walk on one of those blue-sky-but-crisp-and-cold autumn mornings. It’s more easier and much nicer to try and warm yourself up than cool yourself down.
