        He’s half-conscious on the floor, weighted blanket ( that Lidner had brought in the moment she noticed he was slipping in and out of a doze ) on top of him, when one of his many burners goes off. Near blinks awake and stretches one arm out, feeling blindly for the one buzzing and pulling it close to his face. The back and front cameras are covered with small strips of tape.

        It has been a while, but he doesn’t really keep track. Each day bleeds into the next and the passage of time is hard to keep up with when one is focused. Which he normally is, even with the lack of cases that interest him. He knows what the general public thinks of him: callous, uncaring, maybe a little childish — but also brilliant.

        But... she’s never thought badly of him, despite everything. Didn’t they meet because she was being detained years ago? Hm...

        Near isn’t sure if he necessarily worries. Mind too preoccupied with many other things to let himself worry, and he’s never been a worrier to begin with, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. Or that he doesn’t think about her. It’s all complicated, but she understands. He’s glad for that.
