This is because during the late 2000s it was a really popular crack!ship in the Spanish-speaking fandom. I don’t know why it suddenly blew up, but it was super common to pair them in Dramione fics, which I was reading a lot back then, and people also used to post loads of short fics about them.
I remember people started getting interested in the character because around that time Rowling gave an interview saying she had scrapped a scene with Theodore Nott and Draco to show that Draco behaved a certain way with people he saw as beneath him, but acted differently with those he considered his equals like Nott. She also said she imagined Theodore as a much calmer guy who didn’t really care about politics and preferred to stay out of things.
People really latched onto that and gave him this very “lone wolf” personality, someone who kept to himself and didn’t care about house rivalries or petty drama. And honestly, that’s kind of the image that stuck with me: a quiet, introverted guy who doesn’t get involved in ego games because he’s just not interested. It’s very much the version I kept from that era.
