Summary:

Harry supposes Louis’ brash personality is only reserved for people he knows well. People that aren’t Harry, because honestly, Harry hasn’t spoken more than two sentences to Louis in his life.

The thing is, Harry notices Louis far more that he would like and it’s become far too distracting.

Or, after an unfortunate amount of time, Harry’s useless staring finally pays off.

+ (especially during WWAT) Louis' public persona changed dramatically as being more reserved, intimidating, kind of closed-off. I think that's actually the point where a lot of people realized his personality & overall character was more complex than people had originally pinned him for, which is a bit sad honestly. Fics nowadays seem to reflect him more realistically bc we've gotten a sense of his struggles, his insecurities about singing, his blooming confidence, etc. that we didnt have before

absolutely, 100% agreed with you there. louis was the loudest voice in the band in 2011, and then when eleanor came in she suddenly became his defining feature over the next three years, and then babygate hit immediately after that. he’s barely had a chance to show us his personality, so authors’ characterizations seem to have mostly stuck with the obvious: loud, small, flirty, pranks, flamboyant. and not that none of that applies to him -- because it totally does -- but so does kindess, and quiet calmness when he’s in safe spots, and confidence, and intelligence. 

i love the last part of your ask, and i totally agree. i feel like i could read a dozen interpretations of louis and he’s entirely different in every single one and they could still all be totally plausible, because he’s so three-dimensional and complex.
