I just found some books I thought I'd lost. Audio books, that Mitch painstakingly converted to MP3 format for me. He loaded them onto a site so I could download them at my convenience, so I didn't worry about it. I figured that I could go back and reload them, so keeping them on my hard drive or player was silly, right?
Fast forward a few months. He's gone, and so is the site. For months now, I have been kicking myself for not keeping them, and for not downloading them again when I downloaded his entire music library, including all of his playlists. All 159 GB of music. I couldn't imagine that I hadn't saved them somewhere; but in nine months, I haven't been able to find them. Anywhere.
A few days ago, I found my MP4 player. I hadn't touched it since early May of last year, when I moved my PC up from my "cave" to be closer to Mom, in case she needed me. It was lying on my desk in an old Crown Royal bag, along with a micro sd card. Yesterday, I recharged the player and looked through it. No books. Today, I put in the other sd card... and I found the books!Â
I also have all of the podcasts and shows that he gave me, tucked safely away on the sd cards, player, and 2 TB external hard drive. I am now in the process of consolidating all of these to the external drive so that I don't lose them again.
Of course, now I'm going to be paranoid that something may happen to the external drive.
