made by the most marvelous @changelingsandothernonsense , I present to you Loriel Elsinlock, rebel, fugitive, and secret Last Dragonborn of Tamriel! He turned out amazing, Ceth! Thank you so much!
Lorin is a victim
Letās take a closer look at her BC. Weāre presented with two female characters, and in my opinion, this isnāt happening without a reason.
Sathia:Ā
ā braveĀ
ā free, goes wherever she wantsĀ
ā has a goal, matrimonialĀ
ā fights for whatās hers: if Bryce doesnāt want Cormac, she should put him back on the marketĀ
ā stays true to her ideals, defends them ā isnāt afraid to say what she thinksĀ
ā earrings in her ears, which points to individualityĀ
Additionally, an important detail: it was in her brotherās home that Ruhn first noticed you can keep a childās drawings
Lorin:Ā
ā withdrawnĀ
ā sheās ācontentā with the role of continuing the bloodline, sees it as an honorĀ
Alarming:Ā
ā doesnāt want to trouble anyone, doesnāt imposeĀ
ā locked in her home, surrounded by guardsĀ
ā doesnāt want to cause trouble, doesnāt ask for helpĀ
ā doesnāt speak ill of the Autumn KingĀ
ā fixed daily routine?Ā
ā gets nervous when pressedĀ
ā feelings for a man who shows no interest in herĀ
ā important: no family keepsakes, no trace of Ruhn in her homeĀ
Additionally, from the books we learn that:Ā
ā sheās passive in the face of unfolding eventsĀ
ā probably only Ruhn visits herĀ
ā she had no influence on Ruhnās upbringing
Thereās absolutely nothing wrong with a woman wanting marriage, wanting to have a child, wanting to be part of someoneās lineage. Itās all fine if she does it out of her own beliefs, her own dreams. Itās all fine when she has a say in raising the child. Itās all fine when she has her own life.
Lorin doesnāt have that life. She lives shut away in a beautiful villa, surrounded by guards. She doesnāt have the courage to go out into the world, to meet people. The guards could go with her, after all. But she ādoesnāt want to be a bother.ā And she considers the person who locked her away to be a good man. Why does someone like Lorin agree to this? She knows the patriarchal system very well, one in which a woman has no say. She fled Avallen, she deserted. That clearly shows that the system didnāt suit her. And after that, she willingly agreed to be locked away? I donāt buy it.Ā
The juxtaposition of Sathia and Lorin in this chapter is intentional. Itās meant to give us clues that Lorin is, in this situation, a victim.
Created by the Amazing @robo-beasty ! Loriel introducing Zevlor to Scaun! Thank you so much, I love it!

The thing I love about being a writer is I can hit two different characters with essentially the same upbringing and trauma and my brain can spit out two wildly different outcomes.
For example @fairburn-in-thedas and @loriel-elsinlock both have lived with pretty unshakeable guilt over merely existing due to mental illness for the bulk of their lives which leads them to be wildly aggressive pacifists and social justice warriors who tend to put their foot in their mouths, both falling into hero roles but the differences between them is this:
Fairburn might as well strip down in the middle of Haven to proudly dance naked before the Chantry the way that they've largely discarded shame over everything because of unlearning masking after so long, actively citing falling so deep into insanity that they came out sane on the other side and they will find joy and whimsy in everything and that is a threat. They treat their hero role casually and are making the most of it at every opportunity they can.
vs
Loriel at the most minor embarrassment is inwardly going 'please find a hole in the ground and bury me, I don't want to exist' while only expressing mild discomfort on his face. He is a massive pessimist on top of being clinically depressed. His response to being Dragonborn is less him being 'in charge' and largely reluctant 'I am very much the guy who is here'.
Loves me being a writer.
*cough spurs* R-ROYAL FAMILY AU-
