16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
i obviously talk about this a lot but truly don't get what people are getting out of the inquisition as an organization when taken as face value where it's supposed to like, be a force for good..? or at least i don't understand what they're getting that wouldn't be better gotten out of origins or two or even the origins - awakening dlc, right. i think it's fun as an organization who sucks and esp as an antagonist whether from a take on the perspective of the inquisitor as still a prisoner or an outsider coming under the blunt force of it, but "yeah they're good guys trust just ignore everything that could point to them not being so" is deeply uncompelling.
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
big fan of the red jennies as a concept . i think that's so fun, there's so much going on and they've been around for all three games. they're stealing random shit from the circle. they're paying people to kill people because they usually don't do that anymore most of the time. one time one of them was killed so they just flat out murdered everyone who did it. hawke's cousin is one. and of course. obviously. seraaaa... i'd love to see her interacting with the jennies that took her in specifically more i always wonder that looked like
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
oh man uhh unwillingly is perhaps a strong term but i think i remember i used to find a lot of things kind of boring. i think everything everyone's doing with merehawke is very fun. carvermerrill is completely nothing in canon but people occasionally do really interesting things with it. you know.

β Quick! Act natural! β For kid Cara and Justice (I so want to see his dynamic with a kid)
~ @lordgoretash
Omg thank you for asking about my Horrible Nepo Baby and one of her dads! I love their dynamic so much, and I do think this ficlet tells you everything you need to know about Cara as an adult...
@lordgoretash | @dadrunkwriting
Justice & Cara 'Rook' Hawke-Laidir, Justice/Rhiannon Hawke/Anders (mentioned), parenting, fluff, general mischief
wrapped around her little finger
Justice has been informed, repeatedly, since the birth of Cara Hawke-Laidir, that mostly human infants and children need their sleep, hence the unjust imposition of Bedtime despite her persuasive arguments that to be tucked into her own bed when other members of the household get to stay awake and continue their days is Deeply Unfair. Usually, Rhiannon handles both Cara and himself whenever she manages to talk him round - Cara because she is the only one with any immunity to her wide, amber eyes, and Justice because, shamefully, she reminds him that there are any number of enjoyable activities it is difficult to partake in with Cara around to provide a delightful distraction. The minutes they can seize now to work on their manifesto are few and far between, but it is deeply unjust to refuse a child her parent's attention when it is the only thing she truly craves, despite the comfort in which she lives.
Tonight, however, Anders is exhausted, slumbering somewhere at the back of their mind, and Rhiannon is out dealing with some issue with the Templars she will not discuss with them that leaves her tight-lipped and drawn. This means that, for once, Justice is alone when the pale shape of Cara in her nightgown peeks around the corner of the doorframe, and, seeing him, beams, and scrambles up the bed and into his arms.
"Justice!" she sighs, content, resting her head against his chest. This close to her, he can feel her heartbeat through the thin cotton of their nightshirts, and, distantly, the song of the Fade, of his first home, that sings as soft and sweet in his daughter's veins as it does in his own. That alone, he thinks, was worth the horrors it took to get here.
She snuggles into his arms, places a smacking kiss on his cheek, and then says, with five-year-old certainty. "I'm hungry."
He does not hear a note of deception in her voice, though he also knows she ate well at dinner, but she is growing faster than he can believe, despite her mother's claims that she will say anything to stay up a little later.
Still, for her sake, he makes a half-hearted attempt to probe further: "You are certain you are hungry, my purpose, rather than lonely or bored?"
She shakes her head emphatically. "No. Definitely hungry." She looks up at him with Anders' wide amber eyes, eyes he has not truly seen in years, fringed with her mother's own dark lashes, and it would be the heart of injustice to deny her when she adds, pathetically: "Orana's asleep. It wouldn't be fair to wake her, when she works so hard, but you're already awake, and I'm allowed in the kitchen with a grown-up."
This is true - it is one of the rules put in place for her safety, and thus closely attended to by them all.
"It would be unfair to send you back to bed, if you are hungry," he agrees, and, despite Anders' sleep-heavy limbs, manages to manoeuvre them out of bed, settling Cara on his hip with her head against his shoulder. He could never have imagined, before he crossed the Veil, the weight of a child in his arms, the flare of warmth and joy and purpose it would send through him. This is why he exists, he thinks, when he looks at Cara, to create a world worthy of her, a world where she will never fear being locked away for her magic or her nature.
The kitchen is lit only by the embers of the smothered hearthfire, but there is a loaf of bread on the side, and a tray of apple tarts that Cara looks at with such longing that it would be monstrous to deny her. He examines the size of the tarts, and his daughter, and sets three onto a plate, which she greedily devours, though she does at least attempt to feed him the last half.
"Please, Justice?" she wheedles. "Sharing is caring."
He does not require food, and Anders will not thank him for crumbs in his nightshirt, but who could possibly say no when given an opportunity to teach such a valuable lesson to one so precious?
It is because of this that Rhiannon Hawke catches them both out of bed well after Cara's bedtime, both covered in evidence of their crime, with Justice covered in almost as many crumbs as Cara and still eating his half of the last tart.
It is, naturally, Cara who saves them both. She throws up her hands in a perfect imitation of her Aunt Isabela: "Quick! Act natural!"
They might have still been in for a scolding, if Rhiannon could talk through the laughter that bends her double.
β lovingly tracing the other's scars for Hawke/Anders
~lordgoretash
Using Jaylin Hawke (she/her) here as usual! Thank you for the prompt.
@dadrunkwriting
β
"And this one?"
"Smuggling incident. Things got dicey with the guard and they caught me in the side. Nasty." Jaylin's eyes followed as Anders' fingers ran along the darkened mark running over her midsection.
"You've lived an active life, Jay." Anders had a certain levity to his voice that Jaylin had learned to appreciate as much as any other part of her love. He took scars in stride the same way he took damage.
"You have too, o grey warden." Jaylin laughed, her unbound chest bouncing with it. Only wearing a night slip was comforting and intimate in the best sort of way. Being intimate with someone who wasn't blood family was foreign to a Hawke, but it was wonderful.
Anders chuckled, and it was a dark laugh, as he said, "My marks are all on the inside." His hand still followed the many intersecting lines on her midsection, walking over them as if they were some kind of beautiful artwork.
"My poor baby." Jaylin laughed teasingly, making a false pout with her bottom lip.
"Here I was, enjoying a lovely time with my partner, and now I am being mocked." Anders rolled his eyes dramatically and spread out a hand on Jaylin's belly, pressing and rolling his head back to really accentuate the whole moment.
"You can be such a brat." Jaylin let her eyes settle on Anders and just took in what it was to have him there, next to her. The circumstances that had contrived to bring them together.
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
hmmm this one's really hard because i don't know if there any characters i consider my faves that i'd really hc this way. i think varric would maybe have a massive complex about bottoming and pretty much refuse to ever do it despite (or maybe because of?) potentially enjoying it more physically.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
i feel like i'm the only person obsessed with bran. i think it's mostly because his gay vibes are fun and the fact that he apparently has a son hawke's age (??) is really funny to me, but actually digging into his character as being a guy who has to do boring bureaucratic work for the evil corrupt city is also really interesting. i need to write a fic where he and hawke briefly hook up during hawke's first year in kirkwall and the next few years are made really awkward.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterisation, trope, headcanon)
i think i'm taking this question too literally because i sort of understand why people like things on a technical level even if i don't get the appeal at all. like i can't imagine shipping rook and solas but i get why people do it.
okay, maybe controversial but i think dai romances as a whole have me struggling to see the appeal when people praise them as much as they do. even with characters whose romances really appeal to me in concept like dorian, i feel like the execution is nowhere near as good as dao/da2 and i don't really 'feel' the romance. they're not as bad as veilguard but none of them have ever really made me feel anything, while even my least favourite dao/da2 romances have their moments.
5. Is the relationship living up to their initial expectations?
I think it's safe to say it does not, haha. To be fair, I'm not sure either of them had much of an expectation for it to begin with? Neither of them make it out of survival mode until they're well into it to have latched on to any kind of idea about what their relationship would look like once they weren't under imminent threat.
That said, there's a sort of attitude they have at the outset where being together, facing things together, etc. is presumed that turns out to be rather more difficult in practice. If anything, they maybe expected confessing their feelings to be the hardest part and that is definitely not the case for them :')
9. How do they feel about each other's exes and people who flirt with them? Is jealousy an issue in general?
I mean, Sel mostly thinks it's funny Lucanis was down bad for Viago, once she gets past the shock of it. But, then, she's always shocked to find out people find Viago in any way attractive. It always breaks her brain a little. Like, dial up noises for at least 30 seconds. She's more jealous of people who flirt with Lucanis before they get together, and usually only if he has given any attention to it, but it's not really something she acts on or even lets show.
I don't think Lucanis would be jealous of any of her exes, tbh. Of the few that exist, she didn't really allow herself to truly develop any feelings for them. They're no longer even in her sphere, either, for any jealousy on Lucanis' part to crop up. At least, up to now, I haven't really considered what that would look like. Maybe I should. Anyway, I do think he would be jealous if anyone flirted with Sel in front of him (especially if it's someone she would flirt back with because flirting is fun when there's no attachment) and that would probably cause problems.
For either of them, if anyone gets a bit too earnest about their respective attention, it would... not last long before they're running interference, lol, So is jealousy a major issue? Not really, but it's not absent, either.

Were they impacted by Cailan's death? Or did they not care about him?
aedlin did not give a shit about that man lmaoo. she did dislike him bc of his role as king but not enough for it to overshadow the horror of ostagar and therefore for her to feel any real way about it.
How did the Warden deal with Connor? Is he or Isolde dead? What was the Warden's rationale to resolving the issue as they did?
i don't usually do this but it felt fitting for her; she actually saved isolde and connor with the circle option! redcliffe is one of the last quests she does and she's gone through a bit of her arc by this point, so she's trying this new thing called 'optimism'.
How did the Warden feel about the Ashes? Are they religious or do they not care? And did they defile it or not?
aedlin is pretty deeply religious (though along the lines of the andrastian/elven syncretism others have proposed and that seems likely in alienages rather than the standard andrastianism) and there is pretty much no world in which she would defile the ashes. definitely legit believed in them on the trip to haven and was genuinely awed by the temple. played pretty easily into the intended andrastian pc for this quest
