Making more demon refs.
Yknow what bothered me of the SM series? The fact that the most common demon type we see just has no clothes or makeup or specific hair styles. Screw modesty, I'm more annoyed because these things are often a first indication of culture.
So.... the boys are getting clothes and that was the major change in this concept for Sam and his mother in their demon form.
The kingdom Dracae was born under and Sam was raised under was the Belladium Kingdom. It's (VAGUELY) based off Aztec culture appearance wise. It was known for their warriors and wisdom in battle strategy. The person are known to be quite territorial, family oriented and have the belief that the elderly, children and anyone else vulnerable need to be supported as that's how you create the most universally strong kingdom.
This bleeds into Sam's personality as while he does prefer to be alone, he is very defensive over his family and is good with kids.
I like to think masks are just a part of their daily wear. Probably something to do with seeing the face as sacred and something to not be shown willy nilly. Plus it obscures your expressions so you don't give much away about yourself. In fact, in my most recent update on Sam's human form, he has a scarf that he often covers the bottom of his face with. The culture shock of always showing your face was a lot for him.
This ends up affecting Sam by making him not good at disguising his emotions. He never had to, his mask did it for him. He's very expressive.
Sam is the only royal brother that has no influence from the Eastern Kingdom as he refuses to take up their culture or symbol. He has a lot of pride in his origins. Sure, if he's king, he'll be king of the Eastern Kingdom but he'd run it as if it was the fallen Belladium Kingdom. And he does just that in the King Ending.
Oh and extra fun fact: The hammer Sam has? He still has it, it's just floating in his pocket dimension. It used to belong to Dracae in her fighting day but since those days have long since passed, she passed down the hammer to Sam.
