I stirred in my sleep as the constant ringing came from the small, sorry excuse for a kitchen as I buried beneath my pillow, only for the ringing to echo louder against the fluffy material. A primal growl fought past my throat as I ripped my head from my hiding spot before tossing the fluffy cloud onto the floor, only to drag myself into the kitchen and sleepily tug the corded telephone against my ear.
āHello, L/N speaking, and this better be good-ā
āThis is Agent Smith, Iām calling for one of your students,ā a groggy, irritated sounding voice sighed through the phone. Clearing my throat, I stood a little straighter whilst tangling my free hand in the curly cord as I moved a little further from the receiver.
āMy⦠My student? Who?ā I murmured, trying to rid myself of any sleep that hung around still. The voice went quiet for a moment before a quiet murmuring came from the other end -- was he at the station? My question was asked when I heard the high-pitched whine from an ambulance. Nope, definitely not the police station.
āHer name is Alison, Alison Jones. Her phone had you as one of her top emergency contacts,ā the voice hummed as I rolled my lips together before carefully pacing as far as the cord would allow me.
āWhat... What happened to her? Why am I being contacted at 4 in the morning?ā
āIām⦠Iām sorry, but Alison was found dead this morning.ā The rough voice spoke lowly, my heart dropped. I could feel my mouth open but nothing came out. She⦠Sheās dead? Alison is dead?
āWhere?ā I clenched my jaw, holding the phone between my shoulder and ear as I turned back into my bedroom, grabbing the closest shoes to me before leaning against the doorway as a scoff came from the other end.
āWhat? Maāam, this is a serious matter, besides itās 4 in the morning-ā
āI said, where. I didnāt ask what time it was, and you, sir, are acting as if Iām not taking one of my studentsā deaths seriously,ā I paused, grunting as I finally tugged on the leather boot and stood, placing my hand on my hip with a huff. āAnd thatās where you are very mistaken. So, I shall ask again -- where?ā
I slammed the Chevrolet Camaro shining black door behind me, my jaw clenching as I wrapped the pale beige shaw closer as I marched towards the area enclosed with flashing red and blue lights while yellow police tape wrapped around the ditch where I figured⦠It happened.
āExcuse me, miss, you canāt enter-ā
āIām the one that was called for Alison⦠The manās name was-ā
āMs. L/N! Sir, sheās with us,ā the officer and I turned towards the two men marching towards us. The shorter one had spiked chestnut hair, a bit of scruff littering his jaw and cheeks, and these marvelous green emeralds that held a tight glare. The tallest had shaggy chocolate brown hair, a bit more clean face but still had some scruff, and his eyes held what looked to be different colors that had more of a friendly hold in them.
Smiling softly, I shrugged past the man who still held onto my bicep as the two agents stopped in front of him. The taller one stepped forward, his large hand taking my own as I sent him a thankful look.
āThis women is with you? What you boys canāt handle a little hit and run?ā The officer lowly chuckles as I halted any movements, turning my head sharply back, I snarled my lip and took a few threatening steps towards the man.
āExcuse me, whatās your name?ā I batted my lashes lightly, curling my lips into a smile as I could feel the two men behind me bore their eyes into my back.
āUh, Officer Baker. Why do you ask?ā The man asked with a tick of his brow. I took another step towards him, raising my hand before jabbing my index into his chest.
āBecause Iāll need your name for when I get you,ā I paused, before jabbing my finger with each word spat. āWrote. Up. Understood?ā I grinned with a snarl before rearing back and turning on my heel before moving past the two agents that seemed to gawk as I moved past them.
āGentlemen, if you could join me that would be fantastic,ā I called behind me, turning and glancing at them from over my shoulder as the two turned and shared a look with one another. A look that read, ādamn.ā
āSo, your Ms. L/N?ā The taller one spoke as we moved into the taped area. I swallowed thickly as my gaze landed on a black body bag just off to the side. āUh, yes, and you are, sir?ā I turned towards them, crossing my arms over my chest as I hugged myself tightly.
āYou know my partner, Agent Smith,ā as if on cue the shorter man pulled out an FBI badge. āAnd Iām Agent James.ā The taller one, err, Agent James pulled out his own badge before they both placed them back in their pockets.
āNice to meet you both, even under this⦠Horrible situation.ā I hummed, clearing my voice as they frowned. We grew quiet, the night moved carefully as the blinding lights still shone and the freshly made dew gently dampened the grass and cement around us.
āIām sorry for your loss, Ms. L/N⦠No one deserves this, especially someone so young.ā Agent Smith sighed as I glanced at him, frowning some. I nodded and rolled my lips together before turning back towards them.
āAgent Smith, Agent James, I understand how this works but⦠In all honesty, I would much rather be questioned about Alison in the comfort of my studio. If you do not mind, of course.ā I spoke carefully, swallowing at the lump growing in my throat, they shared a glance before nodding. āMs. L/N, if that makes you more comfortable than itās fine with us.ā Agent James spoke with a soft smile as I relaxed gently.
āThank you, agents⦠Agent Smith, could you escort me back to my vehicle?ā I turned my attention towards him as his eyes widened before clearing his throat and nodding, taking a step towards me, he raised his arm and we started towards the Camaro.
āMs. L/N-ā
āPlease. Call me Y/N, I understand itās to be formal but⦠Formal never was my type.ā I grinned softly as we came to a stop next to the vehicle. Agent Smithās eyes widened as he opened my door, yet I found myself grinning as I rolled down the window just as the door closed.
āI suppose youāll lead the way, Y/N..ā Agent Smith grinned with a small smirk ticking at the edge of his lips.
āI suppose so, Agent Smith-y,ā I smirked gently, biting the inside of my cheek as he chuckled, patting the edge of where my window once sat. āPlease, call me Dean, Y/N.ā Agent Smith, err, Dean spoke with a grin as I smiled back.
āMm, I donāt know, I may call you Smith-y a little longer⦠Smith-y.ā I chuckled softly, clicking my tongue as I flicked the switch that rolled up my window, leaving Dean to back away as he patted his hands against his thighs as I turned Ghostsā keys, making his engine roar. I sighed, flexing my fingers around the rubber steering wheel before revving his engine and taking off back towards my studio.
While driving, I mentally scorned myself with even thinking of flirting⦠Alisonās death is something that wonāt go unsolved, I wouldnāt allow her to appear on some YouTube page for unsolved murders.
āPlease, agents, make yourselves at homeā¦ā I coughed as I moved further into the studio, the squeaking from my boots and their dress shoes making me mentally note I needed to mop again.
āThank you, Y/N⦠If itās alright with you, weād like to go ahead and get on with the questions.ā Agent James or Sam spoke carefully as I halted in my steps before clearing my throat and nodding.
āOf⦠Of course,ā I paused while turning on my heel and moving towards the stack of plastic chairs before tugging two, then three down and sliding them across the floor. āPlease. Take a seat.ā
āNow, Y/N⦠How long have you known Alison?ā Sam asked quietly, pulling out a small notepad as I huffed, crossing my legs as I wrung my hands together.
āIāve known Allie since she was perhaps 12?ā
āAnd she just turned 18, correct?ā Dean asked, causing my eyes to glance towards him and give a nod. Sam wrote it down as I rolled my lips together before wrapping my arms around my chest.
āAgents⦠I need to know who did this to my girl, who hurt her.ā I whispered, my voice trembling as I cleared my throat in an attempt to hum away the lump growing in my throat. Both men shared a glance before turning their attention back towards me. I reached up, rubbing a hand over my face before turning my eyes back to them.
āY/N, does Alison have any⦠Real parents? When the officers unlocked her phone, the only emergency number present was yours.ā Dean spoke carefully, his brows knitted together as I sighed with a breathy laugh.
āShe did. Her parents⦠God, her parents were like any other, they wanted their kid to become a doctor or a lawyer, and God, did they hate dancing.ā I chuckled, shaking my head before leaning further back in my chair, hugging myself before continuing.
āAlisonās parents hated her passion for dancing, but they hated me more. They didnāt want someone to spark the small flame that she set for herself, so, when they figured out where she ran off to -- letās just say it got to the point where I had officers escort them off my property, which was followed by several harassment charges and finally ended with restraining orders on them both.ā
They glanced at each other as I clicked my tongue, shrugging before sitting forward with my elbows planted against my knees as I sighed.
āItās funny though, they hated her passion for dancing while I, a stranger to her, built it. I gave her the shoves she needed to step up and lung across the stage. And thatās all she wanted to do was to be herself on stage dancing to the song she wanted to, where the costumes she wanted, and⦠And to help me show anyone could dance.ā I whispered the last part, feeling my eyes watering as I coughed on the caught breathe in my throat. Humming, I used my wrist to wipe at my eyes as both Dean and Sam leaned forward, each placing a hand on my shoulders and squeezing.
āIām⦠Iām sorry, God, Iām so sorry.ā I scoffed, wiping at my cheeks once again before sniffling and sighing. Rolling my tongue over my dry lips, I glanced up to meet Deanās bright green eyes.
āY/N, Sam and I, we wonāt stop until we figure out what happened to Alison, alright?ā Dean spoke with a sweet tone as I sent him a small, soft smile. I reached out, grabbing his rough hand and smiled more.
āThank you⦠I, listen, it is getting late and Iām sure you both donāt want to be driving home once morning rush hour starts up.ā I spoke while slowly standing as they followed, Sam tucking away his notepad as him and Dean grabbed their chairs, stacking them.
āThank you, Y/N, for this.ā Sam smiled, sticking out his hand as I shook it with a soft smile. We all walked towards the double doors as I tugged at my bottom lip, getting lost in my mind as I realized⦠What was I going to tell the girls?
Sam moved ahead of Dean, already walking towards the Impala as I raised my brows, moving closer and grabbing Deanās wrist as I gently tugged him back. āOh, Dean! Here,ā I paused and reached onto the small counter for checking into class.
āThis has my personal on it, and my studio is always open if you have questions or anything else you need.ā I smiled as his thumb and index grabbed tightly onto it, yet I kept it in my grip as I grinned before sighing and releasing the small card.
āKeep it for emergencies, alright? And watch your footing, youāll have to have to take it one foot at a time, Smithy.ā

After the sleeping draught took effect, Killua didnāt fully wake for another two days. At times he floated back into semiconsciousness, aware enough to eat and drink when food and water were held to his lips, but for the most part he slept, the grey hollows beneath his crystal blue eyes fading as his fever steadily lessened. Mito seemed glad that he was sleeping so peacefully, and so Gon ended up even going back to Kiteās forge and working alongside his former mentor to make horseshoes and a small bridal dagger for one of the farm girlsā wedding. She had been exceptionally happy to see Gonās craftmanship on the hilt, the engravings apparently far surpassing her and her beauās expectations. It was the first time heād ever received the full payment for one of his pieces ā and it was worth far more than heād been expecting. Heād never received silver coins while heād been an apprentice.
Kite had been very proud of him. The other blacksmith in town hadnāt been quite so pleased that he would be losing even more business.
But when he went back home that afternoon, soot freshly rinsed off his hands, Killua was sitting up in bed, this time on his own power, and devouring a plate of fish, mushrooms and potatoes like heād never seen food before. An empty cup of Gramma Abeās medicine was sitting on the ground, a slice of the soft bread slathered in honey in Mitoās waiting hand.
She looked up when she saw Gon enter, a soft smile lighting the hazel of her eyes and crinkling the corners of her mouth. Gon grinned cheerfully back at her, the pouch of money on his belt jingling cheerfully. Heād already moved all of his savings back to Mitoās house, and he went over to his trunk, dumping the new silver coins into the pile of bronze.
āAh, hello Killua!ā he said cheerfully, and wide blue eyes flicked to his face with unnatural speed, one of Killuaās pale cheeks bulging with potato. The strange crystal faceting of his iris shimmered slightly. Then his cheeks colored somewhat, and he swallowed, expression held carefully neutral if it wasnāt for the blush on his face.
