Cariboo-Chilcotin Life “The Butte” - Lone Butte BC Lone Butte BC is well known for the Mesa Butte or Volcanic Plug that is composed of columnar basalt that formed a prehistoric volcano six million years ago. In 1918 the government purchased the Pacific Great Eastern PGE and construction reached Lone Butte at the end of April 1919. The Iron Horse brought food, supplies,passengers, mail to the interior communities.
