(This is for my darling friend who has had sort of a bad day, and I'm sure she would love to come home to Loki.)
You trudged down the corridor, practically yawning as you walked. You had gone through a terribly exhausting (not to mention emotionally draining) day. The muscles in your neck and back ached, and you were close to falling asleep even as you walked.
You paused in front of your room door, before slowly turning the knob and walking in. You had expected a dark, dull, and messy room, but what you saw was enough to put off your sleepiness, if only for a bit.
See, your boyfriend, Loki, was supposed to be off handling "Asgard business". He seemed to be doing that a lot these days. And while you were glad he was actually being trusted enough to do important work, you did miss him terribly. You often wished he would be home for just a few days, or at least offer to take you with him to one of his trips. But every time you thought about it, you sounded selfish, even to yourself. So you decided to throw yourself into work as long as he's away.
All you had done for the past two weeks was wake up, shower, go to work, come back, and sleep. Which would explain the mess in your room- and your life.
However, when you walked into your room, you took a step back in surprise. It looked like it had been dusted. Your clothes were put away. The empty water bottle near your bed was refilled. Your cosmetics and skincare were neatly arranged in their designated spots. There were a few candles lit, and your bed had been made with the one set of luxurious satin sheets you owned- which could only mean one thing-
"Loki!" You turned around immediately to see the God of Mischief grinning at you.
You took a second to take in his appearance. He had left in his usual dress armour- but he was standing in front of you in a pair of jeans, along with a V-Neck T- Shirt you had bought for him, and his hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail.
You immediately launched yourself at him, throwing yourself into his arms, grinning like an idiot.
He let out a soft chuckle, a little surprised, but held you close, picking you up off of the ground. He would be lying if he said he hadn't missed you every second of every day he had been gone. What he was doing was important, he knew that, and he wished he could at least ask you to tag along. But he knew that would be too much much ask. Even if he did know you would adore everything about the trips. The different food, clothing, history, architecture, culture, and people. He also couldn't bring you because... well, most realms wouldn't understand the relationship your share. You weren't his wife, or even wife to be. Hopefully... he would remedy that soon.
He didn't really have much time to think, however, as you soon pulled him into a gentle kiss.
He kissed back, not losing a minute.
You pulled away after a few seconds. "I thought you were away for work?" You stare at him. You were over the moon that he was here with you, but you didn't want it to be at the cost of his responsibilities.
He smiled softly, and carried you to your bed. "I was, my love." He dropped a kiss to your cheek, still holding you as he sat down.
"Then why did you come back- I mean- I'm delighted you did, I missed you terribly, darling, but I hope you're not missing anything because of me." You cup his cheek, searching his face for any sort of a clue.
"Alright, how about, you calm down?" He chuckled again, lying down on your bed and pulling you to go along with him.
You went along gladly, leaning into him slightly despite yourself. "I am calm." You frowned.
"Oh yes, of course." He hummed softly, stroking your hair. "Well, I'm not missing anything. I am simply finished with the previous trip- and I thought I would pay my lovely girlfriend a visit." He played with your hair, smiling fondly. "Who, according to a certain little patriotic birdie, seems to be overworking herself recently." He gave you a pointed look, and you groaned. "...tattletail." you muttered under your breath.
"Now, I would like to know why, if that is alright?" He looked down at you, cupping your cheek. "Is something wrong? Did something happen on a mission?"
"No- no no. Nothing of that sort." You brushed him off, snuggling into him, resting your head against his chest, so he wouldn't be able to see your face.
Though it seemed he quickly became aware of your move, resorting to kissing your forehead then cupping your cheek again. "Then tell me what is wrong, darling?"
You looked into his eyes, then sighed in defeat. You knew you couldn't lie to him.
"I...I miss you. I know- I know it sounds selfish, believe me, but...I just, miss you. A lot. And I know what you're doing is important to you and many others, but..." you signed again, resting your forehead in the crook of his neck. "... you're important to me. And I...I want you around. As much as possible. Now I know you can't stay, and also that you can't bring some random girl to your diplomatic trips, but... I don't... I don't like being apart for this long." You groaned again, closing your eyes and hugging him.
Loki held you close, as always, and gently rubbed your back. He listened to your whole rant peacefully, then nodded. "I understand my love. I miss you dearly as well. I wish I could stay." He is the one who sighs this time, holding you close.
With a wave of his hand, you're both out of your casual clothes and into much more comfortable sleep wear. You smile a bit, cuddling in closer. "... let's put this off until tomorrow, alright? I just want to be with you right now."
He smiled down at you. "Of course."
You closed your eyes again, enjoying his cool embrace. Most people tend to prefer warmer and cozier sleeping arrangements. But you naturally ran warmer, and were always craving Loki's cool, refreshing embrace. You were a match made in heaven. (Or...Valhalla. you...didn't really understand how that part worked, but you were not about to think about that right now.)
You were close to drifting off to sleep, when Loki's voice pulled you out of your sleepy state.
"Darling?" He was staring at the ceiling, seemingly debating something of great importance.
"Yes my love?" You whispered, squinting up at him.
"Here's a concept..." he started, furrowing his brows a bit.
"Yes?" You stroked his chest gently, letting out a soft yawn.
You hum, not really understanding where he's going with this, and frankly too sleepy to care.
"...married." He looked down at you, smiling a bit now.
All your drowsiness vanished, and you froze for a few moments. You looked up at him with wide eyes. "Are you...asking asking...what I...think you're asking me?" You mutter, staring at him in awe.
"Well, I think I asked you my question quite clearly my love." He grinned, and held up his other hand to reveal a gorgeous engagement ring.
You stare at him, then the ring, then him, followed by the ring again, before finally letting out a squeal (you would deny tooth and nail to ever making a sound like that), and kissing him passionately.
He smiled wide, laughing a bit as he kissed back. "I... assume that a yes?"
You nodded excitedly. "Of course!"
He smiled, gently slipping the ring onto your finger.
You hugged him tightly, tearing up a bit. "...I love you so much, Loki."
He smiled, holding onto you just as tightly. "As do I, darling."
You pull away to look at the ring. The central diamond was huge, and it was surrounded by a circle of tiny emeralds, all set in solid gold.
"...wow. you know, they say that you shouldn't start with the 'I'm sorry' ring. You should give yourself room to grow." You laugh, teasing him as you stare at the ring.
"Well, I don't intend to give you any apology presents if I can help it. As far as I can, I'd like to minimize any mistakes I make. I promise I'll do right by you, darling." He just your face in both his hands, looking incredibly vulnerable, even afraid, for a moment.
You smile, staring into his eyes. "You know Loki, I don't doubt that one bit." You smile up at him.
Any remnants of sleepiness evaporate into thin air the moment he pulls you into another, though much more passionate, kiss.
