Every day, we'll be taking robots into our Subjectivity community. We've been setting up a Home project to help make it as easy as possible to get idea of the relationships Robot creates with people.
Hi everyone, I'm Tim Morris. I'm a robot engineer at Geniuses, and I've been working with a robotics company for a few months now. I've been looking into problems with robots and their interaction with people, topics, things you might not expect, with things you might not typically think about. Now that's pretty cool. But I want to show you how I've come up with this idea about a "real defense against this robot" [points to stylized robot who wields a stylized robot with arms.] On a personal level, I'm scared of being robotic.
In phrasing, I don't mean robots. I mean robots with incredible abilities that can attack anyone, me being a very big role model. Humans usually have a lot more robotic traits, because humans are actually pretty quickly taught that robots are not that powerful, like we have to use self-powered weapons. It's basically like when you learn that we should use self-powered weapons because of the robots and the rules. But that said, I think robots are probably just one of the coolest things that's ever happened to us, and I think it's gonna change the way we think about the world of robotics. And I think it's gonna change the way we think about space exploration.
I'm still hoping that I get a little bit more involved with people who are big nerds about robots. But maybe eventually I'll get into that and be able to figure out some of the implications of roboticism. Until I figure out what it is that robots do.
Machine learning solving a problem
I'm not hard at work. I'm actually running a project about machine learning here at MIT called Our Machine Learning.
It's a big project, and the goal is to find out how machine learning works. We are gonna do a joint research paper on Machine Learning. If you are interested in this, come talk to me this afternoon.
This is the machine learning paper [points to stylized robot with arms.]
>>
>> It is all piece by piece, man. The short version is that this machine learns on a constant basis. I've built this machine on a a math problem, but I took a set of measurements and put them together.
god your ygo post made me remember the time i went to a card game shop and there was a ygo tournament about to happen and this guy was talking to be about his deck. he put it on my hand so i could look through the cards and he said "you're holding $300 dollars right now" and i just??? didn't know what to say??? he was giving me a look too, as if this was supposed to be attractive but i just couldn't compute

i feel like you guys aren’t sufficiently enthused...
woo, here’s to at least 26 more years of jayk
oh man i don’t think i can think that far ahead
at least two more years of jayk. we’ll take it two years at a time i think.
@lockrum replied to your post “don’t forget that uh. slavery is still legal in the u.s.”
??? (not trying to be aggro, just super sleepy and can't tell what you're alluding to)
oh like i’m getting pissy about people acting morally superior to filipinos over the whole “my family’s slave” thing because we still incarcerate massive amounts of people and force them to work for free or for cents on the hour which is essentially legalized slavery in every way except that they get “paid”, but not enough to be worth literally anything
lockrum replied to your post “I’ve read Learn You a Haskell For Great Good, I’ve read/skimmed a lot...”
haskell in production: vaguely consider attempting to persuade your coworkers to use haskell for a web server before remembering that's not gonna happen, then just use Go. (guess what happened at my workplace...)
How are people actually using a typed language that doesn’t have generics I don’t understand.
