How to Eat Like a Local on Galveston Island
Have you ever heard someone say, "When you go on vacation, follow the locals to find the best restaurants in town"? Well be prepared to follow this local as I tell you about some of my favorite Galveston grubbin' spots!
Shrimp N Stuff. You can't visit a town on the coast and not get good seafood and they have the best shrimp hands down. My favorite thing about this restaurant, besides the food, is the laid back atmosphere. My go-to order is the boiled shrimp salad and a side of sweet potato fries.
Sonny's Place. Sonny's is nothing fancy but it's filled with charm and tons of local love. The menu is filled with feel good comfort food like chicken fried steak, yummy burgers and gumbo. I love to go to in on a cold day and order the chicken noodle soup!
Farley Girls. Their tag line is "A little bit of everything Cafe" and they are not lying, their menu ranges from brunch to pizza to an Asian salmon dish (one of my favorites). They also sell their top wines at crazy low prices 7 days a week from 5-9pm during what they call "Wine Down Nights", can't beat that!
ShyKatz Deli & Bakery. The first major pro is that they serve breakfast all day and have freshly baked bread and sweets available at all times. The second pro is that they serve awesome sandwiches both cold and hot. I'm also a sucker for a good, fresh, delicious sandwich.
These are just a few of many great places to eat here on the Island. Galveston has so many good restaurants and I love to eat so its a perfect match!
