I'm not currently in a relationship, but if I ever get married I want it to be a date with astronomical significance
These are the dates when the orbits of Earth and Mars line up; it happens once every 26-ish months. Earth's orbit is roughly circular, but Mars' is much more eccentric, with one side significantly closer to the sun than the other. Because of this, the distance between Earth and Mars at opposition ebbs and flows on a 15 to 17 year cycle, with local minimums in 1971, 1988, 2003, 2018, 2035, 2050, etc. (these minimums themselves ebb and flow on a 79 year cycle, with absolute minimums in 1924, 2003, 2082, 2161)
Ignore the yellow, green, and cyan, all that matters is the magenta. P is for perihelion (closest to the sun), A is for aphelion (farthest from the sun). The minimums occur when opposition lines up near Mars' perihelion.
August 2003 would have been perfect because Earth and Mars were at their absolute closest, but I was 6 at the time, so the next best will be September 2035. I think that would be nice symbolism for a wedding; two bodies as close to one another as possible.
But let's be honest, when I meet someone who shares by enthusiasm for astronomy I'll want to marry them on the spot.
