"Ladies this is how a man shoot his shot when he's sure you're the one for him." Jokes aside: Many years ago a Gun Buyback program was introduced and targeted inner-cities. The philosophy was, "Let's get illegal guns off OUR streets." I want to touch on two thoughts surrounding this initiative. ********** First, if my memory serves me correctly, prior to the buyback programs there were far less murders of men, women and children of color. Yes, there was a high degree of arrest but at the least you'd likely live to tell your story. There was more of a respect (even if born of fear) for people as to how they were approached/handled because police understood there was a possibility of a gun(s) being present. ********** Secondly, while the rest of society is being taught/trained to understand the responsibilities, power and purpose of guns local and state government continue to encourage people of color to disarm and do away with any thoughts of possessing firearms. At the same time encouraging and protesting for the rights of everyone else to bear arms.
