Addressing students by name is by far the most important step in connecting with them, as I'm sure you know. It takes effort at first to remember each individual, but quickly, they will become their name and you will not soon forget them. The relationships you form with your students within the walls of the classroom (ignoring administration and politics) are a powerful dynamic that can have positive and powerful outcomes. Also 100% agree, as soon as you get names and know the names it creates a connection, I got the names down for another class in the afternoon and my co-teacher was flabbergasted I could do it in one class. I just made the rounds until I knew it and the kids were working and watching me and happy when I got it and laughing if I tripped up but then impressed when I did the whole class without making a mistake. It was like a bonding experience!
I love getting to know the students, it is everything to me, I’m so excited to teach them more I just had the best day I am on cloud 2453, cloud 9 can’t even see me I’m so high right now!
