I checked your FAQ and didn't see this question, so sorry if I missed it. I've been considering getting a reptile for a little while now, but now that I'm getting more serious about it, I realize I have no idea what a good introductory reptile would be. I know I don't want any of the usual snakes, because they seem to get to be at least 3 ft in adulthood and I don't have that much space. Something that could be happy in a 24ā x 18ā x 18ā tank... Thoughts? What are good resources to learn from?
SAND BOA SAND BOA SAND BOA SAND BOAĀ
I mean
Male sand boas and male rosy boas will stay quite small. I love both of them and theyād both be happy in a tank that size; they have low humidity requirements and so you donāt have to worry so much about the tank being kinda dry. Theyāre both relatively docile (my sand is super sweet, my rosy seems a bit feistier and faster) and are easy feeders and tolerant of handling. If you want to go for snakes, either of those is a great bet. Their husbandry demands arenāt super demanding, either, and they stay really petite. I really love both of them, but usually sand boas are a little easier to get hands on. Iāve met a lot more sand boa breeders than rosy boa breeders.Ā
As far as good resources, asking keepers what they do is one of the best things you can do. Books go out of date, so getting a lot of opinions from different keepers will help you weed out good info and care practices from not so good ones!
