A shield? Wooden, but a shield nonetheless. Lemongrab wanted-- nay, he NEEDED that shield for himself! Normally he would’ve only used his sound sword as a means of offense, but at the moment he only had a wooden sword. So, a shield to boost defenses would’ve been a welcomed bonus to his depleted inventory. 

The Earl spied on Link from behind a tin garbage can. He didn’t want to fight for it, but he wasn’t sure how he wanted to actually go about approaching the stranger. “Hmmhmm..” He made a few noises, then stood up and knocked the garbage can over. “SHIELD!” He threw his arms into the air, staring at Link.

It was the first night of the festival, and Link had been keeping his eyes more to the sky than to the things going on around him. Perhaps he was just being anxious, yes- but after everything that’d happened in Termina, he felt like at least a little caution was warranted. But there was no Skull Kid running around, no creepy moon, and no Majora.
