This week has been incredibly boring. He’s been working on tightening his bond with Rowon (after all it’s been a few months already and he hardly made any progress on his project and his friends were getting impatient) and that meant resigning from a good few raves for the sake of sad home parties for two and he was getting sick of it. He needed action and Rowon was providing none.

To add to that, the male’s sleeping schedule was shit -- he went to bed extremely early and woke up before the sun even thought of gracing them with its first rays. Whether he wanted or not, Ash had to at least partially adjust or else this was all for naght.

He managed to bargain a few more hours though, with a promise of watching romantic comedies with Rowon in the evenings. So, that became a tradition -- Rowon was sitting cosily on the couch, his eyes set on the screen so he wouldn’t miss a thing from the movie that was on, Ash was sitting next to him, playing with his phone, half listening to Rowon, half focused on scrolling through the threads on his forum. 

His eyes moved to the screen when Rowon made a heartfelt comment about the main lead. He watched him effortlessly lift the girl and spin her around before putting her on the counter and placing a gentle kiss on her forehead There was quite a mess around them -- she must have been making an effort to cook something for him. Ash lifted his brows at the scene, then his attention moved to Rowon who’s been watching the romance unfold on the screen for the last hour or so. And then, he smiled like an imp.

The first piece of popcorn hit Mason on the shoulder. The second dropped down his chest and landed in his lap. By the time the third piece was in the air, Sangjun was laughing uncontrollably. “Are you just going to sit there and let me keep lobbing popcorn at you? Are we going to talk at all?” His bottom lip jutted out into a pout, one he knew full well made him look much younger than he actually was. “I said I was sorry for coming in late last night. I had some work to take care of, but I’m free for…a long time.”

The next few weeks actually; he had nothing lined up that he needed to work on, so unless an emergency came in, he had plenty of time to spend making it up to his boyfriend. “Oh! I bought you something.” Sangjun fished around in his pocket and pulled out a keychain from Jeju Island, a sea turtle with a myriad of sparkling colors on its shell. On the underside, he’d had it engraved with their initials and the date they’d made things ‘official.’

Even if that ‘official’ wasn’t public.

“I got back late, and I didn’t want to disturb you, so I spent the night at my mom’s house and visited with my sisters. After that, I went home to check in on my neighbor…” An older lady who had no family and had sort of adopted Sangjun as her own. “Then I came straight here. I promise. So I’m only…a few hours late for our date.”

Maybe half a day late, but still…

Living in a society that asked always more and more from its citizens left little time to stop for a few minutes and just breathe. There was always work to do, a company dinner to attend, family or friends to visit. It was suffocating in more ways than one; the world was giving enough distractions to not truly notice the grip it had around people’s necks, squeezing a little more with each new rise of the sun. Gureum was one of them. Their life was the same endless cycle just so they could survive one more day. 

However, when they were given the opportunity to go to the countryside for a couple of days, they couldn’t pass on the opportunity. They had enough money aside to miss two days of work so there was little regret when they stepped inside the bus that soon was driving away from the bustling capital. 

The traditional inn their colleague gave them the address to looked simple but cozy enough for a few days. Around it, there were a lot of fields and, in the distance, mountains where Gureum hoped they could take the time to stroll through. Just being there felt healing enough and a small smile was tugging at the corner of their lips when they were removing their shoes to step into their roomㅡ that is until their name was called by a familiar voice they hadn’t heard in a couple of years. Gureum blinked once, head turning towards the other.

           Younghee knocked on Minkyu’s door, balancing a tray of coffee and pastries in her other hand. She had just gotten off of work and was looking forward to a few peaceful hours with him. It was a routine that had become habitual for her over time, even if it wasn’t quite the same anymore, as much as she wished that nothing had changed between the two of them.
