Yesterday was quite a busy day. We’re working on building up yet another property from scratch. Although I’ve already added quite a few trees to this property out of pure excitement, I decided to slow down and make sure some preliminary steps are taken to make life and the health of the land easier to maintain. Took the opportunity to teach the kids while getting this necessary work done. Being that we’re on a slope, we spoke about water runoff during heavy rains and what we can do about it. I gave them a few options to choose from and we collectively decided to create swales (trenches) to capture the water running down hill and keep it on the property. We will also be reinforcing the swales and possibly the fence line with vetiver to help with soil erosion.
