Arthur Symons Before the Squall
The wind is rising on the sea, The windy white foam-dancers leap; And the sea moans uneasily, And turns to sleep, and cannot sleep.
Ridge after rocky ridge uplifts, Wild hands, and hammers at the land, Scatters in liquid dust, and drifts To death among the dusty sand.
On the horizon's nearing line, Where the sky rests, a visible wall, Grey in the offing, I divine, The sails that fly before the squall.
Vivere pericolosamente.
- Friedrich Nietzsche

I learned about Neil a bit today. I see he's a wonderful person not just a great writer.
How attentive he was to the fans and the the disabled fans that came to see him, because there were stairs that they couldn't get those folks to.
And his snip-its of his life and his home town.
My mom and in needed a to watch something because we were distraught beyond all imagining.
It's been a day from the furthest reaches of madness.
My dad died today.
He had dementia for 5 years from a stroke. His care became all encompassing. And it was hard. It was unimaginable.
I had my mom read Ocean at the End of the Lane a few years ago. We watched Good Omens while spending all our time caring for my dad. So this was a nice look into someone who created a lot of joy for people, and he cares about his audience and fans.
He's famous, but with a kind heart and strong character. It's exactly what we needed.
We were so exhausted that we had to stop it half way. But I'm proud to have read the things he's written. And I've been listening to his audiobooks which he reads himself! So lovely! He's got a great readers voice!
His voice has lullabied me to sleep many times these last 5 years. Trigger Warnings, Fragile Things, Ocean at the End of the Lane, etc.
They saved my sanity so many nights. The stories guided my dreams to fantasies and other worlds when I felt like we, as a family were depleted, my dad confused, scared and aggressive.
So I thank this wild haired writer. He's been a real hero. I know he's won awards and set records, but he's really a sweet man too.
Makes us happy.
